I have often wondered how you know who a new member is if they do not make a post? Surely you don't have the user list memorized.

Uh, it was actually IronParrot who figured this one out. When I got to the board, there were already 401.

Well, probably he noticed that there were 400 members and that no new members had posted, so he went to the user list. It had to be a local user so he searched for a name that seemed unfamiliar. Then by clicking on DarthBaggins he could see that the person had registered on the 15th, so it had to be the most recent member.

Actually, it's because this guy is from another board, and he told me over ICQ he just finished LOTR... so I directed him here. Then he sent me a message saying, "Hey, I'm the 400th member!" so I put his name up...

Because the person hadn't posted before! Only local users who haven't posted show up in user management because they're tied to the board. Global users who have never posted don't show up in anyone's control center. So if DarthBaggins had been a global user and then never posted, we'd never know about him.

I believe you are incorrect. Simply visiting entmoot.cjb.net makes you show up on the list I do believe (or visiting any page here really)

Nope. The member count is added to in two different ways:

1) Local user registers, or
2) Global user posts.

Just visiting won't put you on any list. There are probably people who registered globally at Entmoot but never posted, but we don't know who they are. But we can see that there are a few 0-post local users.

You don't show up on the member count if you register globally and don't post.

I can testify......my friend registered, but never posted....she was only coming to visit my wedding thread cuz she was my matron-of-honor. She tried to post, but it wouldn't go through or something. Then she was disappointed cuz her name didn't show up in the welcome announcement.

if i remember correctly, #300 didn't stick around either. the two Big Milestone Number people who joined while i was here both vanish - anyone remember who #100 & 200 were? are you still here?
