I like some of Dylan's stuff (actually alot) but he is a suck performer imo. Visually, the guy is as interesting as dirt. We saw him in 91 or something....we really were keen on catching his opener, Steve Earl...."Copperhead Road" has just busted out and we were excited. Of course, we stuck around for Dylan, but he was so dead panned boring we had to walk. I guess he saves all his excitement for his wonderful poetry.
I'll take Springsteen....same intense poetry, but what a showman! I must admit though, after 4 or 5 months of the "E-street" (all Springsteen) channel on Sirius, I'm pretty burn't out on the dude.

I can't go see that Cash movie...Johnny and June were real, and walking around not too long ago. I think the family jumped the gun on that. I hope it wasn't all about cash.....

Those two will never come again. JC walked the walk and talked the talk. BD was (back then) flying in the ether and bringing it home to us all.

Dylan's autobiography was excerpted a few months back in Newsweek and was very interesting. I'd like to read the whole thing.

There was a program on PBS last month about him which I forgot was on and so forgot also to record . Did anyone see it?

Let's admit it people, it's about time Johnny Cash showed those new artists the meaning of music. Two songs on the top charts! Go Johnny Cash!

I saw it...it was good, I especially liked the young sweet couple of Joan Baez and Dylan.

Even better though was the show I saw about the Brill building (Tin Pan Alley) writers...Carole King and Jerry Goffin etc

This was the most fascinating, heart warming, and time traveling slice of life cultural history I have ever seen on television. I brought me close to tears several times....gave me creepy chills down my spine with all the memories of times Long gone. Sigh.....

I didn't know you liked Johnny Cash, Hector.

I don't really know that much about either of these guys but I think I'm in love with both! My friend in Japan is really into Dylan and she lent me an MD with some of his stuff on it and I fell in love. And then the man in black... I still remember the day he died- I was at a funeral of one of my dad's friends.

I would have liked to have seen the Brill building one too. I have to start paying attention to the TV schedule so I don't miss the worthwhile stuff.

that is a pretty awesome song... I'd be hard-pressed to narrow mine down to one though. Top three songs :

1) The Wanderer (this is SUCH a freakin' awesome song, I swear it has to be one of my favouritest songs evar1111!!!!oneoneone)
2) Folsom Prison Blues (this evokes song a gut-wrenching reaction whenever I hear this song)
3) Girl From the North Country (ah, how can you not like this one??!)

ok, some more cos I can't stop listing 'em...

4) I Walk the Line
5) Hurt (orig. Nine Inch Nails)

Yeah, I'll stop whilst I'm ahead. Love the Cash. *headbang*

Is the movie any good?

As far as Dylan goes - there's so much good stuff... All along the watchtower... one more cup of coffee... spanish is the loving tongue.... Good music is such a high.

The movie IS good, though it indulges itself quite often; though IMO, this can be forgiven...

The reason I don't like "The Girl of the North Country" is because of Kristofferson's annoying voice. I really don't like country, but I make an exception for Cash...though it can be argued, is Johnny Cash country? It seems more to me that he "just happened to have an accent".

The film was in the works before they died you know.

Johnny and June approved it. In fact, Joaquin Phoenix met Johnny, and it turns out he was a big fan of Joaquin's performance in Gladiator.
