Does Biriwilg sound Elvish?

I know this sounds egocentric, but... Just wondering! If not, what does it sound like?

Re: Does Biriwilg sound Elvish?

I think "Elbiriwilg" would be a little more Elvish, with the "El-" prefixing it.

Actually, no, the G at the end still makes it look kind of funny...

Oh well. I'm Quenya-illiterate anyway.

It sounds more Hobbit than Elf!

Actually, this is a pretty good Tolkien topic, since he wanted to make elvish languages euphonious.

Re: Does Biriwilg sound Elvish?

I was just wondering, because biriwilg is my screen name all over the net. It's actually Aboriginal, I got it out of a book. I've never seen it anywhere since. Thanks!

For some reason Biriwilg just seems orcish to me. Just the g at the ending reminds me of orcs.

Re: Does Biriwilg sound Elvish?

Yeah, it does sound ort of orcish...or maybe dwarfish, though they usually have shorter names. Biriwil, without the g, would sound elvish, imho.

Re: Does Biriwilg sound Elvish?

all the short "i" sounds make it a very unserious sort of name. Like Periwinkle. That's what made me think of hobbitses.

If you want to go Elvish, try Birithiriel or something like that. What's in a name?

Orcish names should be more gutteral and have more hard consonants!
