This would probably make more sense, since there is not another movie in the offering for December.
My thoughts on the Video release dates. (Nothing official just my thoughts ) June -- Theatrical Release August -- Release with fixes/additions that should have been included in the Theatrical Release.

Interesting... you know, as well as it's doing in theaters, it seems to be winding down faster than the first two (I especially remember FotR being out for a long, long time!). I wonder if that's just happening to any movie release - shorter run time.
Are you folks still going out to see it? I saw it for my second time just over a month ago... maybe I can make a third in the next couple weeks - but like I said, it seems to be in fewer and fewer theaters... Look forward to that EE though! |

I remember going to see the FOTR at the end of June, so it was in the theatres for a long time. Actually, I read somewhere that the ROTK was coming out in May, but June will be fine. I'm waiting more for the EE. I hope we don't have to wait till the end of November for that!

Yeah, it's even come to where I live quicker than usual (bearing in mind that POC was being shown after it had been realeased on DVD). I'm going to see it tonight. I think it's just beacuse they don't have another movie coming out in December and don't see the need to prolong RotK like they did with FotR and TT.
Yeah I can't wait for the EE too. I'm going to have a full day watching all three EE back-to-back!

I figured the reason was not more movies as well, the same reason he went to the pre-oscar lunc this year (wearing shoes)

Also, if it wins at the Oscar's you will see it surge back into theatre's, here in the US anyway. That's just typical for any Oscar winning movie...

In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.' 'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin "Oh. When I think abou this, it makes sense, because the production team isn't ALSO working on a theatrical release for December at the same time they're wrapping up the DVD's. Has anyone heard more about this? Are we still looking at June? Is that the theatrical version? Extended Edition in August, or can we hope for any sooner?

RotK is still running at the best and biggest theatre here, and will still do for some time, I think. I suppose NewLine will not risk any loss of ticket income, so I don't expect any DVD release before June, and I think the EE will come later than August - but I'd be happy if I'm wrong.

it's still showing in the big cinemas in my area i'd like to catch it one more time in theatres... maybe a real long lunch tomorrow

It seems I've missed out by purchasing the regular editions of the DVD upon release. This time I'm waiting for the extended version or directors cut, whatever they call it, before I order my copy. It seems many people say there is more important stuff in this one than the other versions.
Thoughts?
