I had a chemistry teacher who looked so exactly like a garden gnome I couldn't even look at her. Her nose would magically wiggle left and right while she talked too, and she would make faces sometimes to be fun, and each and every time throughout the year I would laugh until I cried. I failed both exams because it was impossible to pay attention. She hated me.

I'm always left with the question of why are their lawn gnomes? are they just there to cause me misery when I run over one with a mower? or do they hold a deep symbolic meaning to their owners?

Ooo! My friends were followed by a gnome they found it the woods! It kept ending up at Nicks front door, no matter how many times they moved it! And the Great Gnome Uprising is already being planned. And since the Gnomes sit out in the lawn allllllll day, they made friends with the papers and now all the Sunday editions are in on the concpirecy!

www.gnomeland.co.uk

Excerpt from a script of "King of the Hill"

BOBBY: We have a garden gnome!
HANK: Oh, boy.
BOBBY: I shall call him "Vandor."
PEGGY: You will call him Winklebottom, like everyone else.

BILL: Hank likes the gno-ome. Hank likes the gno-ome.
HANK: I do not like the gnome, Bill.
BILL: Hanky and gnomey, sitting in a tree...
HANK: That's it! I'm kicking your ass!

SALLY: Let me offer up a little tip. Your Winklebottom is facing southeast. Technically he should face north.
PEGGY: Wonderful! Why?
SALLY: Well, that's where they're more apt to find tree moss, which is how they make their delicious gnome tea.
PEGGY: That is so charming.
HANK: No it's not.

PEGGY: Garden Gnome Fact # 28: At night, Garden Gnomes are quite lively. But they turn to stone the second daylight hits them.
BOBBY: I love it! Hey, maybe tonight we should leave out a snack plate for old Winklebottom. Perhaps a fruit pie?
PEGGY: No, Bobby. Winklebottom would like mushrooms and dandelions and a thimbleful of peppermint schnapps.

HANK: I need a gnome. Not just any gnome, a Winklebottom.
SALES MANAGER: A Winklebottom? Why not just ask me to move a rainbow?
HANK: I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or just weird.

Gnomes don't weird me out usually, but I definately wouldn't let my kids near that one.

Anybody have any gnome-napping stories. I know an ancient German couple in Pennseylvania whose lawn is covered in gnomes, goldfish ponds, and trains. Their main gnome (the tallest, brightest one, which sat on his front stoop fishing) was stolen some time in the 80s, long after that tradition had become obsolete, and later that year he sent a postcard (from Paris IIRC, but it doesn't matter), and the next week he was back. I wonder if people nowadays would appreciate such antics.

There's this one French movie, I wish I could remember the title or the lead actress's name, but I'm braindead right now. She's very cute, in a pixie-ish kind of way, little dark-haired, huge-eyed mischievous chick, and in the movie she likes to do all these elaborate, artistic pranks and so forth. Anyway, one character in the film, I think it was her Dad, had a garden gnome, who disappeared, and who kept sending the dad postcards of himself in front of world landmarks, like the Statue of Liberty, the Pyramids, Big Ben, you name it. Garden Gnomes, apparantly, enjoy taking off on trips and sending postcards.

I'm sure that's not all that they enejoy either. I found one in the back woods of an old park, it was creepy. The rocks around it were in a perfect semi circle, with the gnome in the opening. It looked like some one had positioned it, but it was so old with moss and all. I had fun with a few friends there and we treated the thing like Yoda.

Kinda looked like him, with all that moss. We made a fort there, and its still there last I checked. He became our Yoda and we "protected him" and the woods surrounding. That was a fun summer as I recall.
