Boromir's Hair Color

I thought Boromir was supposed to have dark hair. I don't really mind because Sean Bean does a really great job as Boromir, but everyone complains about Faramir having the wrong hair color. Why?

Oh, well it said in the book it was dark. But as long as the actor is good, I don't think it matters much.

I don't think it should matter what color Boramir's hair was as long as the actor did him justice, which I agree Sean Bean did.

I guess Boromir was supposed to have darker hair but Faramir should definitely have had it. In the books, Tolkien described Faramir's hair as raven black whereas I don't think he ever mentioned Boromir's hair colour. So it isn't that strange that people are more likely to complain about David Wenham's hair than Sean Bean's hair. Both actors performed very well so their hair colour doesn't matter much anyway.

Actually the first thread I ever started on Entmoot dealt with this subject - Faramir's hair colour

I found this description of him in The Two Towers Chapter 1: Now they laid Boromir in the middle of the boat that was to bear him away. The grey hood and elven-cloak they folded and placed beneath his head. They combed his long dark hair and arrayed it upon his shoulders. The golden belt of Lorien gleamed about his waist. His helm they set beside him, and across his lap they laid the cloven horn and the hilts and shards of his sword; beneath his feet they put the swords of his enemies.
I agree that hair color doesn't really matter that much, it just seems like a lot of people were bothered by Faramir's hair, and was wondering why no one cares about his brother.

Well, I always pictured them as both black-haired. Descriptions have 'dark' for Boromir, 'raven' for Faramir, the two are brothers, and there my imagination goes... But anyway, Sean Bean became one of my favourites, hair color match or no. (with an occasional evil smile when I hear people talking about Boromir the Blonde. )

IN The Two Towers Frodo at first thought he was looking at Boromir when he first met Faramir. Tolkien describes them as looking almost like twins.

The question is not "Does Boromir have dark hair," but, "Do Balrogs have wings?"

I believe it mentioned Boromirs hair color when they put him in the boat to send down the river.

I think it just said he had 'dark hair', but not really a specific hair colour. While we're on the subject of movies, I will note that Boromir is, in my opinion, the best and most true-to-book characters in the movie, and I don't care what colour hair Sean Bean had, he did a fantastic job.

It wasn't the first time the movie producers got it wrong.

Will do (as much as is in my power). Glad to pass comments with you!

*wracks brain for something on-topic, so this post will not be entirely off-topic*
About Faramir's hair-colour being wrong: the whole character was mussed up entirely. It's just the icing on the cake for him to have the wrong colour hair. At any rate, even if he did, it wouldn't have helped his character any. In fact, the fair(er) hair more befitted the whole down-trodden-younger-brother thing they had going on; made him more vulnerable; no? Really dark locks are for either very resolute characters or bad guys.
