"Gil-galad was an Elven-king.
Of him the harpers sadly sing:
The last whose realm was fair and free
Between the mountains and the sea.
His sword was long, his lance was keen.
His shining helm afar was seen.
The countless stars of heaven's field
Were mirrored in his silver shield.
But long ago he rode away,
And where he dwelleth none can say.
For into darkness fell his star;
In Mordor, where the shadows are."

Yes, if I had Aladdin's genie to hand, I would wish that poem to be as long as The Lay of Leithen. I'd like to hear the part all about Mordor, even if it gave me the shivers.

Definitely, that would be such a hearing, especially if JRR Tolkien sat there in person telling us it

I think I like Gil-Galad because he to me seems like the perfect example of an 'enlightened' ruler, or at least leader. It's the sort of character that if I were living during that age then I would be immensely proud to serve him!

I have to admit though.. I don't know what the Lay of the Leithen is..

I think it's the Lay of Leithien misspelled, which is the poem/song of Beren and Luthien.

Yep, I left that pesky second "i" out of it. Sorry.
