i'm not sure i agree with everyone here that hollywood is somehow "against" religion... there are religious movies and tv series made all the time these days... as well as some that are about as unreligious as you can get

hollywood has become much like many other industries and started aiming more towards specific audiences than trying to make "one size fits all" productions... so you get "touched by an angel" on one station, and "south park" on another... i see this as a good thing

I despise both of those shows, so what is there for me to watch?

hey, your av is really cool bjenkins.

IMO, it seems like hollywood doesnt mind any religion except chritianity.
Maybe not because they are against it, but maybe because they dont want to be critisized or ridiculed by christianity haters.

It's like that in the US at times too. For instance at Christmas, some towns have not allowed nativity scenes to be displayed in public, but have allowed decorations from other religions, such as the Menorah. That actually happened this past year in Florida...

In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.'

'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin

I think that it's more that holleywood and America has become so politically correct and if we're going to be honest a lot of western Christianity has become pc. For a well known actor to do a movie that gets to the heart of what Christianity is all about in a not so politically correct fashion. That's bound to cause a stir.

But they shouldnt make a big stir about it.
as it says in my sig....
"If people would stop trying to find offence in everything - they may find that most people are NOT offensive nor racist. If a person searches for it around every corner - they are bound to perceive it where none actually exists."
but of course the world wont be fixed on these words alone.

Interesting nugget:

Just found out that the Aramaic for "God" is "Alaha".

The thing is the message of Christianity is offensive because it makes people uncomfortable. Isaiah 8 talks about how the message is offencive. Here is a song, called "Scandalon" by Michael Card, based on that passage:

The seers and the prophets had foretold it long ago
That the long awaited one would make men stumble
But they were looking for a king to conquer and to kill
Who'd have ever thought He'd be so weak and humble
Chorus
He will be the truth that will offend them one and all
A stone that makes men stumble
And a rock that makes them fall
Many will be broken so that He can make them whole
And many will be crushed and lose their own soul
Along the path of life there lies a stubborn Scandalon
And all who come this way must be offended
To some He is a barrier, To others He's the way
For all should know the scandal of believing
Chorus
It seems today the Scandalon offends no one at all
The image we present can be stepped over
Could it be that we are like the others long ago
Will we ever learn that all who come must stumble

thats absolutely true D-oftime.
but if some people really didnt believe christianity to be the real thing, then why does it make them so uncomfortable?
a good point.
but Gibson is not the first one to make a Jesus movie, so why are they making a big deal of it?
I have already expressed my opinions of why.

btw-do you want an avatar D-oftime? I'd be happy to make you one.

Well, as far as I've seen, the people making the fuss about it are Jews, and they're complaining about it on the ground that it supports the "Blood Libel" i.e. the age-old claim that the Jews are collectively responsible for the death of Christ.

Since, for 1800 years of Christian history , this has been used as an excuse for massacre, murder, torture, rape, confining to ghettos, expulsion, forced conversions, discrimination etc., etc., they may have a right to be a little nervous.

Vatican II specifically repudiated this, but Mel Gibson belongs to a sect that doesn't accept Vatican II.

Throw in the fact that his father, whom he has supported, is a Holocaust Denier, and some Jews get nervous. Can they be blamed?

I haven't seen the movie- but when I do, I'll make my own judgements

well said.

In my opinion, the jews are just panicking for no reason.
IMO, It was the fault of the jews that christ died, but not every jew is the same as the other jew, so why blame present day jews for something that thier ancestors did?

but I still need to see the movie to see what its all about.

Personally I think the reason that there is so much opposition to this particular movie is that there is something about this movie that the devil is nervous about. It's going to be exciting to see how God uses this movie.

Well, He may already have expressed His opinion:

Quote:
-- Actor Jim Caviezel, who plays Jesus in Mel Gibson's controversial film "The Passion of Christ" was struck by lightning during shooting.

Caviezel was uninjured, but a producer described how he saw smoke coming from the actor's ear.

An assistant director on the film, Jan Michelini, was also hit -- for the second time in a few months.

Now that's being a tough Reviewer

from the way i read the bible story it wasn't anyone's "fault"... it was kind of part of the plan that christ died... if anything he was killed by "mankind"... jc also was a jew technically

on the rest, i think these days you can make a movie about whatever you want... which is a good thing... who cares what critics say

alright, to clarify

The film is called "The Passion of the Christ"

It's starring Jim Caviezal (aka. the count of Monte Christo)

It will be in Latin and Aramaic WITH subtitiles

It was not made with a company, but completely independently done my Gibson, who reportedly payed 30 million for it's making.

Reverend Billy Graham gives it "two thumbs up"

This film is not for those with weak stomachs, it is to portray Jesus' last hours realistically, with all the violence of a roman crucifixion, without making it gratuitous. (there is not "Monty Python" blood spewing out of ars etc.)

Reverend Billy Graham gives it "two thumbs up"

Re:"The Passion of the Christ"

Thank you to all the Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, etc., as well as all the independent churches, for your great work in spreading the word and building up support for this movie.
Not only will it help in making this a financial success, but far more importantly, it will spread the Good News about the Saviour.

Too bad you're all still going to fry in the Fires of Hell for all of Eternity.

Love, Mel.
