The Problem of Padme

Does anyone else besides me think that Padme is the cause of at least 52% of the new movies' problems?

I'm telling you, that girl CANNOT act! I hear so much praise for her all the time, and I think to myself "Are these people crazy?" Liking her for her looks is one thing, but for her acting?

And I am of the opinion that, without Padme as we know her, all the Prequels would have been improved. Other problems are there too, yes. But even Jar Jar became better as the series went on, while Padme and Portman's acting became worse!

personally, i hated the character and actress and everything. like i hate "miss elizabeth" in pirates and that AWFUL guenivere in King Arthur...i hate keira nightly...and yeah, i eliminated the "k" because she doesn't deserve knighthood...

i just hate what they've done with the characters in general. i find it obvious that they were just trying too hard for a strong female character. now, don't get me wrong, i think that strong female characters are great, but not when it's obvious that the writers were doing it intentionally. bah...makes me sick...i hope you know what i mean and don't get me to be some great sexist, because i'm not. so there.

Yes....there is no way I can imagine her as Leia's mother.

I actually liked the character and the actress, I just thought the movies should have been a directed by someone other than Lucas; he is good (THX 1138-loved it), but he had not directed in how manye years. He should have known he would be rusty.

She was okay. Nowhere near as bad of an actor as the two Anakins.

Jake Lloyd was Dustin Hoffman compared to Natalie Portman...

Hayden Christiansen suffered from the wrong kind of face for that kind of acting. I always had the impression he'd been in a few Disney Channel Movies...

I can't BELIEVE you liked her! .....ARGHHHH!!!

I'm sorry people, but this is a subject that really gets me going (also trying to let off steam from more serious thoughts), and I just can't COMPREHEND liking her acting. I just cannot. Her looks? Ok. I'll admit she pretty, though not nearly as pretty as Leia...

Anyone noticed that Padme, who had such an annoying honeyed voice, sucked all the honey out of her family genes so Leia ended up with a scraggly vioce?

Really, she just makes your eyes roll...come now Padme! What kind of line is: "Oh Ani, You're breaking my Heart!" ???? You'd think she'd been listening to Simon and Garfunkel* just before she popped out of Obi's ship.

Durinsbane, thumbs up! Coincidence that Keira played Portman's decoy in Ep.I?

*"Oh Sylvia! You're breaking my heart, you're breaking my heart blah blah blah blah..."

Hehe . But really, did you know Keira played Sabe?

Padme: This is my handmaiden, in whom I am well-pleased...and uh, she's my decoy.

Not, of course, to mention the fact that the way she DIED so inconveniently makes it VERY hard to explain that Leia said in Ep 6 that she knew her mother to be "kind but sad"....

Agreed....I'd call that a MAJOR discontinuity.

Indeed! I'd forgotten about that one. So maybe *hopeful* Padme isn't Leia's mother afterall?

Nah, she is. Sorry.

Personally I think most of the problem is that George cannot write dialogue, nor can he direct. After all, if even Ewan McGregor seems to be struggling (and we ALL know he can act) what can you do?

Hmm...You're right about Lucas certainly, but Ewan was able and sucessful even with poopy dialogue. In fact, he's the only redeeming quality about the prequels. I have to disagree that he was struggling...

I said if, I said if! I didn't see any struggling myself, but then again, with Ewan, why be picky?

I know...it's just that I felt a need to defend the only great quality of those films

You forgot the FX, which as usual were excellent. But Ewan wasn't the only good actor, how can we forget Chris Lee, Liam Neeson, and of course Ian McDiarmid?

Yes, they were also great; but Obi was the true beacon.

Now, about the FX; they sure were fancy and thrilling, but what bothers me about the prequels is the level of technology they have: it doesn't match up with the Original technology. All those fancy parachute ships, etc...it sure doesn't make The Empire's fleet look that great after all...I mean, with the technology that even Padme has on her planet, why is a Death Star a surprise at all?
