i read the directions in the FAQ, but can't seem to figure out the how

OK - guess we'll never know until someone tries. I've seen them used at other forums which use VBulletin, but never made a serious try to do one myself. Maybe I'll try it within a few days and see what happens.

Polls were disabled here, mainly due to the annoyance factor, I think. But once or twice they have been used for a specific purpose by the staff (the last election, for instance).

one thing on the annoyance factor too... on a board i admin, i made a forum that was only polls... and the only place you could post them... solves that vote-bump thing

It would really be something that would be up to Ben. IIRC, the reason for polls being disabled was they prevent discussion. People may vote, but there may be no discussion taking place in the thread for days or weeks.

that's why i was thinking of a poll-only forum category... just to see where the 'moot readers stand on things... discussion of said polls could be in their own thread in general

SGH is correct. Entmoot isn't a polling outfit, it's a discussion board. A survey forum would probably be cluttered with lots of topics that waste your time and my space.
