Could you explain this a little bit better?
I've actually never heard of a widespread concept of Personal Upbeat Messages.... Are they signs you post on your shirt when you leave for work or school in the morning???

I'm interested about what you mean too. Is this something more organized, or is it encouraging things that you might say to your friends to make them feel good about themselves?
I agree with you about confidence ElizabethAnnRoger (can I call you EAR?  ). It doesn't matter if what you wear is fashionable or not, if you rock that lime green off-the-shoulder sweater, then you'll look good in it. There are some things that people don't look nice in (usually because it doesn't fit) but you're right - people usually look their best when they feel good about themselves.

That one makes me laugh because my Dad says it sometimes, and he used to teach high school. My Dad has a lot of sayings that make me laugh. My Mom too. She taped a funny quote to the fridge. It's probably still there, yellowed with age, even though they moved. It says, "Life in uncertain, eat dessert first." My parents always have something witty or cheerful to say it seems. They are great.

My education teacher say "If you can't do, teach. If you can't teach, go into administration."
I think my favorite phrase to remember daily is "shougyou mujou" (there is nothing in this world that does not change). That and "memento mori" (remember that you are mortal). It doesn't sound very optimistic, in fact the first one especially is bitter medicine, but it helps keep perspective, I think. |
