i crack up every time I read it..I have no idea why

"Thang you very buch." Hee hee.
No seriously . . . em . . . Ooo, I do so like a lot. Probably Gandalf's 'good-morning' speech at the beginning, or when he says to the dwarves that he never brings things that are of no use. I forget the exact quotes, but I like those two lines.

How can I take this losing hand and somehow win?

Just give me One Good Year To get my feet back on the ground.
I've been chasing grace; Grace ain't so easily found
One bad hand can devil a man, chase him and carry him down.
I've got to get out of here, just give me One Good Year!

I don't remember the exact quotes, but Bilbo's little songs or whatever he yells at the spiders. And the riddle-y sort of talk with Smaug.

"At 'may never return' he began to feel a shriek coming up inside, and very soon it burst out like the whistle of an engine coming out of a tunnel.....Then he fell flat on the floor, and kept calling out 'stuck by lightning, struck by lightning! over and over again.....Excitable little fellow," said Gandalf. "Gets funny queer fits, but he is one of the best- as fierce as a dragon in a pinch."
and also
"Bilbo baggins", a bur- a hobbit," said poor Bilbo.
""A burrahobbit?" said they a bit startled. Trolls are slow in the uptake.

Mine is probably the most recognisable thing said in The Hobbit.

"What have I got in my pocket?"

I like this one so much that it's what comes to mind every time my hand goes into my pocket. It's effective, whatever it's effect was supposed to be.

My favorite quote would have to be from the three trolls. "Who's arguing but you, I'd like to know. "You're a Booby," said William. "Booby yerself!" said Tom.

"Lovely titles!" sneered the dragon. "But lucky numbers don't always come off."

I love this part. It shows how smug Smaug is.

This is a deliteful little post!!!!!

Alas, this quote is hard for me to write, but here is anyway:

"No!" Said Thorin. "There is more in you of good than you know, child of the kindly west. Some courage and some wisdom, blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. But sad or merry, I must leave it now. Farewell!"

Romans 5:3
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

The same as Telcontarion, only I'd shorten it a bit:

Quote:

Don't be precise.... And don't worry! - Dwalin

That's one of my favourites. I say it whenever someone is late.

The Hobbit is a gold mine of quotes - so much more applicable than many of the ones in LotR.
