Wilhelm - where do you find that Scatha did not breathe fire?

My sources are not "canonical" I'm afraid. I typically try to soften my tone when discussing things that are not directly from Tolkien (much like I did in the latter half of that same sentence regarding Scatha not having limbs). I failed to do so in the earlier part of the sentence. (and am now hanging my head in shame.)

Here are some non-cannonical sources:

• There are some other Tolkien websites that state that Scatha is a cold-drake.
  
• I also have a book or two that refer to a Cold-Drake return to the Grey Mountains after Scatha was defeated by Fram (A Tolkien Bestiary for example). This infers Scatha was a cold-drake.
  
• Giants, monsters, and dragons: an encyclopedia of folklore, legend, and myth By Carol Rose clearly states that Scatha is a cold drake.

I can not determine what the source is for this recurring theme.

Like I said... non-canonical...
