On topic: What frustrates me even more is other Mooters spelling character's names wrong.
Me too, but I guess that happens sometimes by mistake.

My mom always says "Elvis" instead of "Elvish" and my dad says the names wrong to annoy me.
I also get
Legless
Argon
The wizard guy
The hoppit

OH well we Tolkien people just have to bear up and feel sorry for all the poor souls who don't know what they're missing

People always think that I'm a Frodo/Elijah Wood fan just because I love LotR. Annoying.

my dad always calls Frodo: "Photo"
I can't stand it...

My friends almost never can get the characters and their names in order...weird...Like I get: "Who was that guy...you know the guy in love with the girl elf...but he wasn't an elf?"

Frustration!!!!!!

You know, i was just thinking about it, and despite the fact that a bunch of people still get the names wrong, think how much worse it would be if PJ hadn't made the movies. A lot of people wouldn't even know anything about LOTR if it weren't for the movies. At least you can be talking about Legolas and they say "Is that the hot elf dude" instead of "who the heck are you talking about, why are you obsessing over Lord of the rings, its just a book"

Talking about my dumb cousin.
Christmas 2001. FotR had just started in cinemas.
We were sitting together and I had my LotR books with me. And he said: LotR, never heard of it!
The movie didn't help.
The movie did help finding new Tolkien haters, I guess.

I watched FotR with my little brother and sister the other day. It was horrible.

Bro: Who's that?

Me: That's Aragorn.

Sis: Is he a black rider?

Me: NO.

Bro: Is he Sharon?

Me: Sharon?

Bro: You know the bad guy...Saddam?

Me: AHHHHHHH!

Sis: Who's that?

Me: That's Legolas.

Sis: Oooh. He's hot. Is he a black rider?

Me: Oh my gosh.

My brother and sister are 10 and 7 respectively.

Hahahaha. I know how you feel. I watched the Fellowship with my little bro a while ago. For some reason he always zones out during every movie, so he still doesn't know anybody's name or if they're good or bad. And I can't convince him that Galadriel is on the good side friggin Peter Jackson or that Borimir and Aragorn aren't brothers, and neither are Gandalf and Saruman, and he still thinks that Gollum and Smeagol are 2 separate people who travel together and hate each other and he can't figure out why they don't split up. Some people...

Bombadillo: Well technically, you could call Gandalf and Saruman brothers...

I know! When my cousin was staying here recently (He got very annoyed because every time we went online I used to hover around, waiting for him to get off so I could go on my 'Ent-Moot'), we were going to do a LotR play type thing. But I was forced to settle on a LotR parody, because my sister and him could not get over having a 'Legless' character.

when I told a friend that I'll learn Quenya, she said that she thinks that Quenya is a language for people in a sect.

Get stuff like that too. I mess up a Spanish sentence and someone undoubtedly says it's cause I spend too much time with my Tengwar
And you get those people who just roll their eyes as if we're to stupid to comprehend

I get really bad grades in algebra cause I've been reading RotK in the back of class. FOr some reason I'm hearing about it from all the other students. But it's none of their business. People are really annoying, especcially when they're so goody-goody.

From now on when people ask me who my favorite LotR character is I say somebody obscure like Elladan and Elrohir or Dain Ironfoot. That way I can distinguish between those that have read Tolkien and those that haven't and then carry the discussion in a direction that suits me. Usually if it's a person that has no idea who Dain is I tend to smile and walk away.

It also irks me when people mispronounce Celeborn; saying "Seleborn" instead of "Keleborn". I thought of all the pronunciation things that the "C" pronounced as "K" would be one of the easiest to remember.

Gandalf

Gilmore!? Hahahaha... oh that's terrible.

Yeah my friend was telling me he just started reading LotR, and he was on page 44. I went over his house yesterday and found his book so I looked in it, and I found out he had only read the info pages and the 40-page foreward.

I don't get annoyed when they mispronounce the names. I just correct them.

What DOES annoy me, though, is when my friends tell me they are concerned seeing all the Tolkien books in my house and saying I'm obsessed with Tolkien's works. Sheesh! Do I say anything about all the freakin' Grisham books laying around their homes?
