I just got back from a little cottage in the woods, up in Michigan, where I have the most perfect climbing tree! Well, possible not the most perfect, but it's pretty good. It's a pine tree, and from my perch about 2/3 of the way up, you can see the beach, and they can't see you. I have this one spot where I always sit, where 3 branches intersect the trunk within 3 inches of each other. It's a perfect chair, and you can spy on the people on the beach without them knowing. It's great!

I used to climb anything that had sturdy thick branches with the first ones hanging low to the ground. I don't climb trees anymore, though. Perhaps because of my ever-growing fear of heights and lack of dexterity.

I went to this park in Bangor, Maine about a month ago, there was this great tree there too, a willow, I think, and I could climb way up high in it and stare at people unobserved. I am sorry about your harry, katya. I had a white birch tree in my grandparents yard, called Nimorn (another Elvish name), and my granpa cut it down and chopped it into firewood!

Ai, ai! A chainsaw! A chainsaw is come!

I imagine that's what Nimorn screamed when it saw your granpa.

Ah, so that's where TC had sneaked off too! I spy on my neighbors from the tree in my yard (the ficus) sometimes. The other day I scared the **** out of my boyfriend from up there. He was coming to pick me up and I was up in my tree and I waited until he was right beneath me to let him know I was there. It was amusing.

Since I'm going to be moving soon, we've been looking at houses. There was one that was pretty good, but there was something I just didn't like about the yard. Then I realized what it was -- NO TREES!!! That one went on the "no" list!

I used to teach with a woman who said she'd like to live in a place with fewer trees. I probably looked at her like she was crazy, so she said, "I'm from Texas. I like to be able to see the whole sky." I could understand her point, since the trees do obscure my view of certain parts of the sky, but I still like having trees better.

sorry for not responding, havn't been able to moot recently. Yeah, that's at home.

the easy solution to not being able to see the sky for the trees is to climb to the top of the tree, of course!

I live where I can see the sea, and I have trees! I love the sea, and couldn't imagine living without it. Seeing lots of sky at once scares me.

Kashka, remember the first rule about a house is, NICE TREES!

I usually climb trees barefoot, too. I climbed a spruce tree yesterday (though not barefoot) with my friend and it was really cool because you could see the sea and the cliffs. And there were people walking on the trail below who had no idea we were up there!

I find barefoot climbing to be easier, you get a better grip on the tree with your feet than you would with shoes on.

Yes, think of all the nasty pranks I could play...
You do get a better grip when you're climbing barefoot, especially if you're climbing old maple trees in the rain...as I learned the hard way about three weeks ago.
