Ok, non specific measure of years would be "era" as to the second syllable, I have no clue whatsoever

or perhaps "age" or "eon"? (Eonwe springs to mind, but the second part doesn't fit)
For 2 - sour, rotton, spoiled, pithy, mushy - hmm, don't sound right!

Someone got the correct first syllable.
Clue to second syllable: also applies to the famous Texas flower...but not the color.

Is it Arathorn? "era" + "thorn"?
Altho I don't see how an apple can have a thorn ... *is feeling VERY dense*

Right, Rian!! It's your turn!!
There is an antique tree called a "thornapple" which is much like a crab apple. It's referred to in Victorian writing from time to time, but I don't think it is very common. Or perhaps is was just another name for the crab apple. Congrats on figuring out my very obtuse clues!!!

ok, um .... *thinks*
Ok - my first is a part of the anatomy of a fish; my second is an old-fashioned unit of measure.

The first one is either "gill" or "fin". I don't know about the second one though maybe "fathom" or "span"? (Though they don't make sense)

Is it Finrod by any chance?
P.S. I'm travelling today. So if Finrod is right, I give my right to post to whoever comes here first... Last edited by Beren3000 : 06-23-2004 at 05:49 AM. |

Yes, it's Finrod - "rod" is an old-fashioned unit of measurement. Good guess!

That name does exist. Ingold was the leader of the guards of the Rammas Echor, who gave Gandalf and Pippin the permission to enter the townlands of Minas Tirith.
But unfortunately it's not what I have in mind. P.S. If you feel that you need a clue then just ask.

It's not "something durable", it's just "durable".
