Ok people, let me ask you one question. Has the movie been released and I just haven't known about it? Exactly, it hasn't, so stop jumping to conclusions until you see it with your eyes...

I have to agree with dunedain there. lets first watch the movie and then decide if pj messed up or not.

Wait and see how it happens. maybe it has a good explanation, although it really seems pointless.

well, my source was a book from newline baout the upcoming movie, so i'd say it was pretty dern reliable.

haha, JD i completly agree with you on something!
amazing.

it's not really the fact the the evenstar breaks, it's the quote from around that statement.
i haven't go thte book, so here's the gist.
"the power of the evenstar is broken, and all thoughout middle earth the effect is felt..." or something..
uh oh, more story line changes.

i know im going to love this movie, it's my favourite book out of the three, and im sure it will be done well.. but now, instead of obsessively excited, im more cautiously excited...

Well, the Grey Havens are definately gonna be there, cuz I've read too much saying or hinting that they are. And we already knew that Scouring wasn't gonna be in it.
If I had a stress ball I would have already shredded it. The last book has so many exciting, tender, hopeless, and hope-filled parts that I hope PJ doesn't butcher them just to make the Battle of Pellanor Fields the all-important element.

I've been chasing grace; Grace ain't so easily found

Except with Saruman gone it /is/ the all-important element.

Did you see /any/ Saruman in the companion, LuthienTinuviel?

*is desperatly trying to prove that Saruman will be in the movie*

You know, I'm glad he's cutting all that stuff! He can't steal my imangination of those from me just because I want to be in the debates!

"its a fun little piece, but i feel its continueing the two towers instead of starting return of the king"

You guys just have to wait a little longer. It will all be in the ROTK extended edition.

Why does it have to be in the extended edition? If it's an important enough part to have in the movie -then it should be in the movie. The extended edition is just scenes they decided to cut and have pasted back into an extended edition to make more money.

here.
Quote:
"Since The Two Towers couldn't sustain a 7 min 'wrap' after Helm's Deep, we thought it would be a good idea to save it for the beginning of the Return of the King," says Jackson. "The trouble is, when we viewed various ROTK cuts over the last few weeks, it feels like the first scenes are wrapping last year's movie, instead of starting the new one. We felt it got ROTK off to an uncertain beginning, since Saruman plays no role in the events of ROTK (we don't have the Scouring later, as the book does), yet we dwell in Isengard for quite a long time before our new story kicks off."
My Commentary: we dont care. we want saruman in!

Hector: Actually, I think it's Tolkien Enterprises (a company that bought the rights) that gets the money, not the Tolkien Estate. As for Christopher Tolkien, he has remained absolutely silent about it, I believe.

He doesn't like the films (had a fight with his son over it, if the rumours are true), but he can't do anything about it. The movie-rights were never his, all he can do is sit and watch.

That's what I had heard too. That Christopher hated Jackson doing the movies. I don't necessarily think he is completely against the books being made into a movie - but I think he was against the type of movie that Jackson made.

I came across a BBC artcle a while back about the issue, and it turns out it is a rumor. However, he (Christopher) only said the rumors weren't true (about his son, public remarks regarding the films); he didn't say one way or the other how he himself felt about the films. I'll try to find the article and link to it here, if the link is still working (I read it many months ago, and it was quite old when I found it).

My guess is, though, he won't be rushing out to the video store on Tuesday or standing in line for tickets in December

From the BBC dated Friday, 7 December, 2001

"My own position is that The Lord Of The Rings is peculiarly unsuitable to transformation into visual dramatic form," he said.

"The suggestions that have been made that I 'disapprove' of the films, vent to the extent of thinking ill of those with whom I may differ, are wholly without foundation."

He added that he had never "expressed any such feeling".
