I just bought a book of maps, that happened during the Silmarrilion time, and I bought my own copy of The Silm.

Good luck! The Silmarillion can be a tough read (I floundered terribly on my first try), but it's well-worth it!

I got a copy of the Sil from the library. I haven't gotten very far yet, but what I have read is facinating!
Can't wait to get my own copy though.

A friend gave it to me. As a direct result, it didn't cost a cent.

Well, I have the first edition also , and I bought it new for $25.00 when it first came out in 1977. I guess I'm showing my age with that brag.

Re: im confused
Yeh the Silmarillion is really hard to read at points cuz theres so many characters and there are bad Easterlings that marry good women and then good people kill them... but it's my favourite book and it's really good if you can grip the story. Just get a few of the main points straight first:
Fëanor & Sons: &#$*#(*@# ~ very mean people Finrod ~ o so nice, and o so pretty. *Prettier than Legolas, and that's confirmed by Tolkien himself!* Lúthien ~ prettiest of the 'Children of Ilúvatar' ever to walk the earth You'd better have read Valaquenta and Ainulindalë, otherwise it'll NEVER make sense... the first parts of it anyway, and those are some long long first parts! O, and, just so you know: savour 'Of Beren and Lúthien', and just get 'Of Túrin Turambar' over with as fast as u possibly can!
