No, that's good, I think that could count! Their friendship wasn't tested near as much as Sam and Frodo, but it was strong

Yay, an Enchanted Forest reference!

How about Eleanor and Eddy from A Diamond in the Window? Do siblings count?

How about Don Quixote and Sancho Panza?

Or Basil Fawlty and Manuel...ok, maybe not.

Dr. Who and Sara Jane.

Kirk and Spock.

Buffy and Willow.

Dorothy and the Scarecrow (and her little dog, too!).

No! Crackers no.

The closest Dr. Who bond b/n companions and the Doctor would either have to be Dr. Who #1 and Susan (his granddaughter), or Dr. Who #2 and Jamie.

David and Jonathon from the Bible is certainly a good example but I'm not sure about Jakkin and Akki, as I remember their friendship developed into a romance too... Harry and Ron that is interesting... I don't dnow if their friendship was as close as Sam and Frodo's though, or David and Jonathon's

No, Harry and Ron are definitely not that close. I was sort of joking when I posted that. . .

That is true. . .it's been a while since I've read the books, I didn't remember that. . .Well, I wouldn't say it's quite comparable to Sam and Frodo, but close.

Harry and Ron is definatly not the same, or even close, to Sam and Frodo's relationship. I can't really think of anyone who had the same relationship so I would say that it is pretty unique.

Well, what about Turin and Beleg Strongbow? At least for Beleg, anyway...

Kirk and Spock -- yes!

How about Beowulf and Hrothgar,
Roland and Oliver
Zorro and his sidekick,
and who was that Greek guy who offered to die in his friend's place if he didn't make it back in time for his execution?

C.S. Lewis says, "To the Ancients, Friendship seemed the happiest and most fully human of all loves; the crown of life and the school of virtue. The modern world, in comparison, ignores it." He has a whole great chapter about it in The Four Loves.

What about Legolas and Gimli? They literally went to the ends of the Earth with each other..

Or how about Fingon and Maedhros?

Yes, those too!

But...are other Tolkien characters allowed?

Either way.. they're worth mentioning..

Anyway.. what about Timon and Pumba? For a meerkat(sp?) and a warthog, they've gone through quite a bit. Hakuna matata, eh?
