Merry Christmas to all- though it's already Boxing Day here- so-named, I think, from all the fighting that happens on this day after all the things people said at the family Christmas dinner
 Christmas pageant went well, even if, as writer/director, I do say so myself. Everybody found the right places, most of them remembered most of their lines, some of which you could almost hear over parents calling out to their kids to look this way for a picture or holding up squalling babies to see their big brothers and sisters; Mary did not give premature birth before they reached the manger, which happened a couple of times in rehearsal....(we need a 'relief' smiley).

And found a new nomination for "Worst Christmas Song Ever" from the late 1960's: Canned Heat doing "The Christmas Boogie", sounding like every other boogie they'd done - they actually only knew one tune, just played at different tempos- but backed up on vocals by Alvin and the Chipmunks. Truly Horrible.

Also watched Jim Carrey's "Christmas Carol", which was not as bad as I thought it would be, mostly because it stuck so closely to the original dialogue, but still not a patch on Alistair Sims or George C. Scott- or the Muppets, for that matter.

One of the hardest parts was costuming. I don't know if they have this elsewhere, but since every kindy does this twice a year, there are catalogues that you can rent costumes from- everything from butterflies and frogs to geisha girls and cowboys.- and therein lies the rub. Angels and kings they had, but trying to persuade the principal that shepherds outside Bethlehem should not wear shiny satin Wild West gunslinger outfits, while she's pointing out that- and it sounds reasonable given the Chinese translations- since they don't have any sheepherder costumes, cowherders are the next best thing, no? Also that the Virgin Mary shouldn't be wearing a harem dancing girl outfit, even if she does come from the Middle East. She insisted on something pretty, so Mary and Joseph ended up in what looked like it might be the Albanian National Folk-Dancing costume.

I received the newest Clothbound Penguin Classics (see profile pic) and some books authored by Tolkien. Here's the total list: Dante's Inferno The Hound of the Baskervilles Tess of the D'Urbervilles Oliver Twist A Christmas Carol and Other Writings Houghton Mifflin Co. Special Edition copy of Tales from the Perilous Realm The Monsters and the Critics Tree and Leaf I was very happy to receive these....counted my total Tolkien collection yesterday and found that I have a total of 65 books with him or Christopher as author. Should I stop collecting?

You seem to be a pretty normal size, so I was a bit confused, so I went and checked - it says "in stock, except S, M and L"
It must be popular! But they say those sizes should be back in stock at the end of January.
