The Stones : I was around when they first started -- didn't like them then -- still don't. (Grow up, Mick -- you're old, for heaven's sake!!!)

Rod Stewart : His voice is like fingernails running across a chalkboard. (Though I like his "new" Old Standards for some reason -- I guess it's because he's acting his age...)

Elvis Presley : No. I just couldn't take him back when. I still fail to see what all the hype is about. He did have great marketing, though...

Springsteen : Okay, but not thrilling. Would never buy any of his albums. (Sorry, JD!!)

Country music : Especially the stuff that's out there today! Yuck! (I have a very healthy respect for bluegrass, though, because my Dad loves it and always played it when I was a kid.)

Rap music : I'm an old person, kids. I don't get it. I don't want to get it. I really don't think I'm missing anything.

My taste in music is pretty ecclectic (with the above exceptions). I like a lot of stuff, but I'm pretty out of touch with new bands. There are a few that I like, though, or at least songs that I like (I may not know the name of the band.)

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who can't like Elvis and the Beatles! I really can't. But then again, I don't know if I would like to either.

Ah, yeah. Springstein, Rolling Stones, Beatles are all way overappreciated. Billy Joel has real talent that I easily tolerated listening to, but only until I saw how funny-looking he was and now I can't take him seriously at all.

Techno! Boy, with all the time, dedication, talent, experimentation, and unrivaled geekiness that goes into that I should definately try to be more respectful for it, but it's just so funny.

Don't worry, Janny. It's not that I don't respect him. He's very successful and popular. He just isn't my favorite singer.

And for the record -- I love the Beatles.

Hey Janny...Bruce Springsteen is tops in my book! They don't call him the Boss for nothing! ( He's almost as hot as my husband! ) Don't fret if others don't understand.... more Boss for us to appreciate!

I like Springsteen, and Elvis, and The Beatles, and the Who, and Led Zep. And I used to write off county and rap as well, but then I found that there's always talent regardless of the genre. Like Johnny Cash. Or Run DMC, or Sugarhill Gang.

i always forget about johnny cash being country... i do enjoy playing a lot of his stuff

i agree on the beatles, who and zep too

like i said on bruce, there's a handful of early songs i like... and he is very good in concert... but that born in the usa popularity during my high school years rubbed me the wrong way... so few people realize that it is actually a protest song full of sarcasm

Indeed, 'got into a hometown jam / so they put a rifle in my hand / sent me off to a forgein land to go and kill the yellow man.' Did I mention I wasn't alive til about 15 years after the end of 'nam... Would there be enough interest for a Boss thread?

Also... I tried to like most of Van Morrison and also Traffic and really couldn't.
What about bands you like but don't want to? I tried sooo hard to not like Leonard Cohen!

Actually I was thinking about starting a cousin thread: Bands/Artists/Songs you are embarrassed about liking but cant help it. Dancing Queen would be tops on my list.

Van Halen: For all the reasons given by people above.
Rush: In theory I should love them but I don't.
Aerosmith: They kinda rock but it's stupid pop music all the same.
Slayer: Irritating vocals and simply the worst solos ever.

The Darkness - The novelty has just worn off and they are just trying to be Queen, my beloved Queen....

I like Queen and that's all that matters to me.

You go back to Springsteen.

Ohhhh man, you're not kidding Slayer really is terrible. I don't even know why I listen to them. I guess it's because there were such early groundbreakers for that genre. Still, it's always fun to just pop in Reign in Blood every once in a while and give it a good listen.

yes!
The Darkness- i only liked the one song.. you know.. that one.. with the octopus...
Queen- alas, before 'my time' (but still like what they play on the radio)
Mettallica- ehhh...
Tesla, Gwar, Guns n' Roses- before my time... but no 'alas' here.

EDIT: one more band! ATARI TEENAGE RIOT.
it's good to listen to when youre angry, but that's about it.
The kids in that band (little asian girls) are so angry, that by the time the CD is over, you're just like, "Wow, i thought i knew angry.. but these tiny asian kids are so much madder than i can EVER be..."
you really have to listen to it to get what im saying..
