All of the sudden, group of three owl bears ( large bears with beaks) appear. They knock over the dark man and the largest of the three snatches up the the gnome. The wizard is momentarily stunned and tries to gather himself. " What ho? Where did these hungry rascals come from? Fear not little one, (although he looks worried) It is just your red scarf they want?"

Aralle knew that the wizard's statement probably wouldn't be such a great comfort to the gnome, even if Gabby believed it. The little gnome loved that scarf, and sniffled a bit when the wizard told him what the owl bears wanted.

Aralle stared the largest owl bear in the eyes, made a soft growling noise, then threw the light blue cloak she had been wearing in the direction of the owl bears. The largest one dropped the gnome, snatched the cloak, and padded away with his companions. Gabby scurried off to hide behind the Dark Man, who had gotten up.

"Owl bears," explained Aralle. "I've encountered them before. They're stubborn animals, but fairly peaceful, really, and very lazy. They didn't want to attack anybody if there was an easier way to get what they wanted."

There was something very strange about this situation though It took the griffin a few moments to figure out what was wrong, and when she did, she turned to the wizard.

"I thought owl bears were solitary creatures, and traveled alone. Why are there three of them here?"

ooc: Lubyla, this might be a good time for you to join.

The dark man grabbed the gnome and tucked him under his arm. Then the man said " I have experinced nothing but bad luck and bad manners since I have met you People! Now another harbernger of bad tidings. I think not." Having said that he turns on his heal and walks into the underbrush and dissappears withGabby under his arm.

The trotting of a horse was heard in the distance. As the horse arived, a rider sat atop. Nazgul is the world that comes to mind when seeing the rider. They reached for their sword, just incase, as they rode to the small group.

" After saying that, He takes a step toward the unhorsed rider and stares at him (not in the eyes) and holds his staff across his body at an angle. "Be careful fair rider, few things are more worthless than a homeless minion." now adressing the wraith " Be gone foul one."

I had to laugh at thier remarks. "Wraith? No. A wraith has no real voice.I come and go as I please, I am no wraith, I am a ranger of the north."

Aralle smiled at the rider, then told the wizard, "I think you were being a little unobservant earlier. Look at that rider, and listen to the voice. Can't you tell? She's a woman." She turned to address the rider.
"Hello. I am called Aralle."

I nodded, and softened my voice. "I am Serenity, ranger of the north." there was a rustle in the bushes and I could see the wizrd move to attack. "Kill it and I shall kill you." A leopard padded over to me. "And this is Dagger, my companion." Dagger purred and shined her teeth.

Aralle smiled, and thought that Conner must have been quite young (for a wizard, that is). She would not explain why she acted so much older than she looked; the wizard hadn't asked.

"Yes, I've met Serenity and Dagger before, though I didn't recognize them at first," she said. "Don't worry, we can trust them."

Of course, Serenity will not recognize me. It has been to long for her.

Something strange is afoot. Owlbears acting in concert, aged ones walking the earth. Strangers and thier consuls arriving in my woods. There is something brewing getting stonger. All my druidic powers tell me so.

I looked around the woods as a chill wind, bitter and cold, blew through, chilling all but me. "I have been here before, and it pains me to be here again." Of corse I hd been here before. I looked at the ground, face still covered, and picked up a small rock. It felt like cold fire in my hands. "I know this wood well."

"This is not an evil place. I'd not have allowed Rain near here if it were. What is it that causes you pain, Serenity?"

Aralle had realized at once that the woods had more magic in them than was usual -- partly because of the wizard, but he wasn't the only reason.

The griffin glanced over at the wizard. He was deep in thought; something was obviously troubling him. Aralle, sensing that there were no foul creatures near, decided to give the wizard a hint as to her identity.

Aralle knew she could trust him, and when a wizard was this worried, something was very wrong. Knowing for certain that she was friend, he'd have one less thing to worry about.

"Creature of legend, hidden from sight; rescued by eagles..." she murmured. Though she did not look at the wizard, Aralle knew he had heard her. And the lines, if he knew his history at all, would mean something to him. Serenity, though, was unlikely to understand. Few non-wizards knew of the war between griffins and gargoyles, which had resulted in the near destruction of both races.

"The past. Nothing more, nothing that can be changed." It was true. "These woods weren't always like this, but that was time ago, too long to remember, and few knew of it." Why was I so open? I knew them not well enough to tell the story, but why was I?

Arelle speak words he had not heard in a long, long time. He had to ponder a moment, she is speaking of what. Griffen she is a griffen. With that he felt good and bad, for he knew the griffen was a powerful allie but why would he need such a formidable freind? He spoke again "Let us have a council and speak, we will see what draws us to this time and place?" He looked at the two newest members of the party "Why have you come to these woods? "
