Broken Finger!

i suspect i have got a broken finger,
its well swollen and v.painfull,

thing is, i think the treatment for Broken Fingers, is more or less always a Splint, (ie icecream-stick, strapped to finger with tape)

has anyone here had a broken finger, and how was it treated?
support?
how long for?

etc...
tell me everything u know.

Um it may seem pretty obvious, but you should see a doctor. You do not want to take the chance that it could grow back incorrectly if it is broken. You may not get full use of it if you don't take care of it properly.

take drastic action - then you could be called Aldesign of the nine fingers and they would sing songs and praise you with great praise !

which finger?

if its the little ones the chances are you yourself can just strap it up.. a doctor will do not much more. If its one of your main ones then he put it in plaster.

i broke my finger! ( i think)
well it really hurt, swelled up to half it's size and turned purple so i'm pretty sure it was broken.
my mum's a nurse though and she told me that if i went into the hospital, they'd just make me sit around for hours and hours and then all they would do is strap it up and tell me not to use it for a while. so she just taped it up to the next finger and told me not to use it. so i didn't and it got better after about a week or so.
but if you want to sit around in a hospital for hours...be my guest.
although Andy of the Nine-fingers does have a certain ring to it....

i broke my finger a couple of years ago. it didn't really hurt though.

Id have to wait for a doctor for 1hour, see him
hell give me permission for an exray
ill go to that department, thatll take 1hour to get to the hostpital, and another to wait and have the Xray
then wait another hour
then get seen to by a nurse who will just strap it, when i coulda done that at home.

I dont want to be a drama queen like: anduin & viggosbeard.

BTW its my middle finger.
and its the nuckle nearest the tip of my finger,
i have eated 2 icelollies, and strapped them either side of my finger (with footballer tape) keeping it straight.

and it told me all about broken fingers, unless its really bad (near base of finger) then ull never need surgery, and itll just have to be strapped.

I broke my wrist last summer- most of a roof fell on it. It swelled up so badly that I could slip my cast off within a week. I suppose the fact that I slept on it didn't help.

In any case, go see a doctor, post haste. Is there a walk-in clinic near you? Because those tend to be rather helpful for this sort of thing.

You should go see a doctor. If you have a fracture involving the middle part of the bone, and it is not displaced, then splinting is usually the treatment. If you have a fracture involving the joint, then the integrety of the articular surface may be damaged - this could lead to arthritis later on. You may have a partial dislocation or a sprain - again the joint capsule can be damaged. Splinting is usually the treatment, but longterm prognosis depends on the type of trauma. Do not diagnose yourself.

Who needs a Doctor? They're just people who had the (mis?)fortune to pass more than 50% of the exam. Ever notice how they never seem to be able to diagnose without that encyclopaedia set they carry around?

I've got a MUCH better idea, Al, just smash the rest of your fingers. That way, it'll take your mind off the pain of the first finger.
