The Poisonwood Bible

If you haven't read this book, you must must must must go read it. Amazing.

There is some Christian stuff in it, but it's actually a book that shows how hypocritical some Christians can be (among many many other themes).

I generally don't allow myself to read during the school year, but finals end during the last week in April, so I'll stick it at the top of my book list. Any other recommendations?

Are you big into fantasy besides Tolkien? Have you read C.S.Lewis' space trilogy? "Perelandra" is an amazing story which seeks to answer the question, "What if the creation story were to happen all over again (this time on Venus), now that Jesus has redeemed humankind?" Of course, reading them out of order is cheating, and you'll miss a lot unless you read "Out of the Silent Planet" first.

Other reccomendations:

Madelaine (sp?) L'Engle (except "Meet The Austins")
Anything by Han Nolan
Anything by Barbara Kingsolver
Jean M. Auel's Earth Child series...she hasn't written a book in fourteen years, and the next one is coming out right in time for my birthday!
Diana Gabaldon, The Outlander Series

Poisonwood Bible is REALLY good book! I loved it! And last year they gave us an excerpt from it in my humanities class to read, which usually is a sign of a very good book! Has anyone read Prodigal Summer? I started it, and I found it very dissapointing after Poisonwood Bible, but that's just my humble opinion, because I know a lot of people who loved it.

Haven't read Poisonwood Bible yet, but I really want to, since I read two other books (The Bean Trees and Pigs in Heaven) by the same author and they were *wonderful*. Next chance I get to go to the library, I really need to check it out.

I love The Bean Trees and Pigs in Heaven. Poisonwood Bible is quite different from them, but still good. Go read it!

The Bean Trees was a good book. Taylor's roommate (Luanne? I can't remember) reminds me of my mother.

Fine, April Turtle then.
That sounds like an air freshener!

Anything by Barbara Kingsolver is very good. I'm also always recommending Madeline L'Engle to my friends.
