Music inspired by Tolkiens works

I've searched this site and found nothing relating to music inspired by Middle Earth (mods forgive me if I've missed it! )

I've set myself a quest: to aquire all music inspired be middle earth! and so far, I've been pleased with the results! (mostly)

Firstly, I'll list the artists/albums that I've found: (in order of preference)

1) The Tolkien ensemble - Complete songs and Poems
(all the songs and poems from the LOTR trilogy
put to music and in the order they appear in the books
what more can be said apart form "GREAT")

2) Ainulindalë - The Lay of Leithian
(as far as I can tell, this is by a french guy who has put
The Lay of Leithian into musical form with the help of a few friends
The album is moving to say the least although it is a little difficult
to get hold of, the guy is on myspace if you want to order a copy
which I would highly recommend!!!)

3) David Arkenstone - Music inspired by Middle Earth
(The music is good, but not as good as some that I've found, a bit
....well, different)

4) Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle Earth
(This is one for all you heavey metalers out there, the album seems to
be from the viewpoint of Morgoth and Sauron etc! [they have some
spoken narration on the album, amongst other characters] It's a good
album if you like metal!)


I would have put "Ainulindalë's" album first but for a feeling of loyalty to Tolkien himself, the "Ensembles" work is VERY good, very fitting, so lets just say albums 1&2 are tied first place!

If you know of any others, please let us know!

I've heard a few of the Tolkien Ensemble's pieces. I quite liked their rendition of Elbereth Gilthoniel, and especially Snow-white.

Ainulindale sounds intriguing; the ENTIRE Lay?

If you're a Merry-and-Pippin fan, on iTunes you can get their little chant about the Green Dragon that they sang in Bree (I think) in the movie.

lol at gwaimir! Not the entire lay, lol! It's only 40mins long the album, but the main points of the story are there. I think it's classified as "dark folk" music, but don't let that put you off! Lol

hehe, I know it well hun! There's also another recording of that hymn/poem but I don't know who did it. I found the link off a tolkien related web site called ardalambion. Tis a good site with language courses and a couple of music tracks linked to. Will try to post the song or the link here when I get on my pc (am using my mobile!)

There's a cool musician named Justin Roth who has a song inspired by Lord of the Rings, specifically the Hobbits and the Shire - it's called "Bagshot Row" and there is an album version of the song, I just haven't been able to find it anywhere online, but here is a live solo version: Bagshot Row by Justin Roth

Hi everybody,

I'm Engwar, mastermind behind the musical project Ainulindalë.

As mentionned here I released a first CD called The Lay of Leithian back in 2004.

I'm now releasing a new record called Nevrast (Out March 2014)

It's also Tolkien inspired, the idea behind this album was to gather a few tales that would all originate or have a link to the region called Nevrast.
I wrote the lyrics myself but it's strongly Tolkien influenced so I'm pretty sure you'll recognise a few themes here and there
