Well done, CC! U may continue.

Which is widely scattered throughout the West Indies including a large breeding population in the Bahamas, and smaller numbers in Cuba, the Cayman Islands, Antigua and Barbuda, and Jamaica. It is largely sedentary, apart from local movements which can be 100 km or more. Nests have been reported in tree cavities, on branches, in clumps of bromeliads, and on the ground under thatch palms and other dense bushes. The usual clutch size is 10-16 eggs. It habitually perches in trees, which gives rise to its specific name.

The birds are mostly nocturnal and secretive, inhabiting wooded swamps and mangroves, where this duck roosts and feeds on plant food including the fruit of the Royal Palm. = West Indian Whistling Duck

It's the West Indian Whistling Duck, a bird I know from neither name or looks, but I know where you get your info, GW so I know where to look.

I still like quizzes, but some questions (like this one) are a bit though for me and I forget about the thread.

Well done, Earnie! You may continue.

These are birds of the family Anatidae, which also includes geese and ducks. They are grouped with the closely related geese in the subfamily Anserinae where they form the tribe Cygnini. Sometimes, they are considered a distinct subfamily, Cygninae. There are six to seven species of it in the genus Cygnus. = Swans

Swans? I'm pretty sure that's what Cygnus means...

Well done, CC! U may continue.

This is a moderately large, broad-bodied duck native to southern Australia. It is protected by law. Dark in colour with fine off-white speckles all over, it is most easily identified by its large head with a peaked (as opposed to rounded) crown.

Do you know your dragons?

1. Much looked-for lake monster from the Congo River, Nessie's african cousin so to speak.

2. Near-eastern dragon, sometimes referred to as Marduk's dragon.
Mušḫuššu

3. Scandinavian gold-loving dragon whose blood rendered its slayer (partly) invulnerable.
Fafnir

4. Hebrew dragon of biblical proportions.
Leviathan

5. Scandinavian sea-monster. Thundergods have been known to mistake it for a cat.
Jörmungandr, the Midgard Serpent

6. Divine Mesoamerican dragon. Particularly fluffy.
Quetzalquatl

Hm. 4: Behemoth? Or Leviathan? Those are the only dragon-like things I can recall off the top of my head at the moment from the Bible (well, the Hebrew part. I think Revelations has some too).

I don't know of another name for Marduk's dragon, but it's a pretty snake-like thing with legs and a long tongue.

Leviathan was the one I was looking for. (If Behemoth was a dragon too, I really will have to brush up my bible-knowledge. I had him pegged as a regular monster. )

There is a name, but it indeed is the pretty snake-like thing.

Correct on both counts. (All three counts, rather. )

I always understood Leviathan as a sea-monster, so I guess each of us thinks the other was wrong .

Is the pretty snake-thing the unpronounceable Mušḫuššu? I hate diacritical marks on top of consonants...

Also, I completely forgot to mention #6: Quetzalcoatl (also called Kukulkan in Maya).

Correct!

Which leaves only dragon nr. 1 to be named.
