I, for one, agree with Brewhaha.
I like Ulmo the most out of all of them.
We seem to have different pictures of what he looks like, however... Me from the canadian version (the NEW one; you unlucky americans are stuck with lousy 1987 versions while we get new and better ones every few years) of "Unfinished Tales" and he from a picture from the new Tolkien Calendar (2000, I think).

Re: ..

We have different cover art here in Canada, because we get the British editions! That pic of Ulmo is awesome. BTW, I heard on a newsgroup that the new American editions are going to have new cover art.

I like Ulmo 'cause he's "Lord of the Waters", but I also thinks they're all pretty kool.

Ulmo's the only one of the Valar who really thought beyond his own self-interest, so props for that!

I like his solidarity and his wisdom. But my favourite he is not. My favourite must be Yavanna

I like Ulmo the best of the males. My overall favorite is Yavanna, though.

I'm not sure I agree with this completely. I agree with the sentiment, though. He was the one to continue to take an active interest in the children remaining in Middle Earth while the rest appeared to sit on their hands. But remember, they were all still at work invisibly and to varying degrees.

I took some quiz on council of elrond and the results that i was most like to Mandos however Ulmo if a "iffy" character. I love how he is the only Valar who is always achieving something useful however i did not like how he made Osse back off of the Teleri so they could come to the Hither Lands

Ulmo rocks. And another vote for Yavanna, too! Any links to those Ulmo pics you were talking about?

Ulmo's alright, but my favorite Vala is Námo, without a doubt.

Who in the world is Námo? We don't speak that language around here.

Ulmo

I'm not very big on the Valar, but out of all of them, I believe Ulmo would be the best in my book.

I like him because he lives in Middle-earth, not Valinor (or at least he has more contact with Middle-earth than the others). I am in the process of reading it again, but this time (the third) I am taking notes as I go so that I will remember it better. Peace.

Respect Ulmo a lot for his efforts on behalf of Elves and Men during the period the other Valar were ignoring them, as well as his unique position that the "Father and Mother know best" attitude of the other Valar towards bringing the Elves to Valinor was wrong.

My favorite however is Orome. Like Ulmo he refused to abandon the Elves to Morgoth's "mercy", even while the Noldor lay under the Curse. Always irked me though that he didn't get nearly as much mention about it as Ulmo did, although the strong implication was that he was riding around all the time with his posse of monster/beast-slayers and doing his best to keep the forces of evil culled and off-balance. Enough anyways that all of the Elves (aside from maybe the original Avari) knew that the sound of his horn meant that all Evil had "fled far away".

I also like him because like Tulkas he wasn't taken in by Morgoth's charade about changing his ways after his three Ages of captivity.

I don't actually know who I like most... Ulmo or Aule... I've always loved Aule for I do love the Dwarves very much... yet I also like Ulmo because he is the "Lord of the Waters"... and I've always like Posiedon
