Actually, I prefer quotes from before...

"Ignatius . . . to the church also which holds the presidency, in the location of the country of the Romans, worthy of God, worthy of honor, worthy of blessing, worthy of praise, worthy of success, worthy of sanctification, and, because you hold the presidency in love, named after Christ and named after the Father"
-of Antioch

"Ignatius, who is also Theophorus, unto her that
hath found mercy in the bountifulness of the Father
Most High and of Jesus Christ His only Son; to the
church that is beloved and enlightened through the
will of Him who willed all things that are, by faith
and love towards Jesus Christ our God; even unto her
that hath the presidency in the country of the region
of the Romans, being worthy of God, worthy of honour,
worthy of felicitation, worthy of praise, worthy of
success, worthy in purity, and having the presidency
of love, walking in the law of Christ and bearing the
Father's name"

I'm curious to hear from those who advocate for the earth being more doomed now, than say during the cold war. Is the fear-mongering/terrorist activity/nuclear thing any more scary now than it was in the cold war, or are we just falling under the sway of fear-mongering media outlets?

Well, I don't really think that someone is more likely to start a nuclear war now that during the cold war, per se. But I might throw a thought into the discussion:

Muslims believe that Christians are the enemies of their faith, the enemies of God. (Kind of like the Church during the Crusades.) Muslims further believe that to die while killing a Christian will get them straight to Heaven. (Hence, it is no wonder that there are so many lining up to strap bombs to themselves.) Now, the Russians did not nessicarily hold these beliefs. And so I think perhaps it might be more likely that a Muslim might flick a switch to launch a nuclear weapon before a Russian during the Cold War would.

AMENDMENT: I should say something like "a sizable portion of Muslims" when I generalize. There are, perhaps, Muslims out there who are entirely peaceful and do not believe that harming anyone will get them into Heaven.
Also, I am not saying that nuclear war at this time is only going to be triggered by an Islamic nation. America could get a little clout-happy and decide to put the mushroom-cloud on someone. *shrug* Anyway, please don't think I meant to start any arguments; I just meant to add to the discussion.

I think you should wander over to the "Muslims 2" thread Rosie!

Prob'ly stuck my foot in my mouth again, eh?
I really shy away from religion-threads. They too often turn to arguments and flaming-fests..

And most conservative evangelical, fundamentalist, and nondenominational Christians today. But the Church during the Crusades acted from self-defense; the Muslims were sweeping over Christendom. North Africa used to be very much Christian, ya know.
