'The Enchanted Forest' by Patricia C Wrede
Has anyone read Dragon Search, the second book in the Enchanted Forest Chronicles, by Patricia C Wrede? I think it is a brilliant book!!
Also, I would like to know if anyone has read the first book in the series, I haven't, but i would like to! |

it is the story of how the wizards kidnap the king of the dragons(kazul) and king mendanbar of the enchanted forest, along with the dragons princess cimorene, morwen the witch and telemain the magician rescue kazul. at the end of the book, mendanbar and cimorene get married

I have read them all at least twice, and I think they are excellent. They are best read in order, read the first one and start the series over Chrys!  It's worthwhile. (They do stand alone as good books too but I think you'll miss some of the overarching plot developments.)

Yes, I love these books. They're all great. I tried to read them to my little sister over Christmas, but she got bored--I guess they're better for reading by yourself. My favorite thing is all the references to fairy tales, especially Herman the Dwarf. Searching for Dragons is my favorite of the 4 books.
I wish Patricia Wrede would write more in this setting, but I guess the main plot (defeating the evil wizards) has been accomplished. Still, anything by her would be great. There is a short story that follows Talking to Dragons called The Frying Pan of Doom. It's in her short story anthology, Book of Enchantments. |

Hmm... I read them when I was younger (ten-ish? Dunno.) I quite liked them, as I recall. I guess I remember them as pretty childish, but I don't think I ever reread them. Maybe I should.

i like the childish aspect, when i am feeling in a sensible frame of mind, i pull out a book by Prof. T, but when I need to wind down, I get out Patricia Wrede

I know nothing of this series, but I'm always interested in good fantasy books. Can someone maybe compare it to a series in the same class as Enchanted Forest? If not, please just tell me a bit more about it.
Oh and Chrys, I can't believe you read the 2nd one first. I never do that, there's a reason why the books have a number on it  |

These books are all very witty and humorous. They are classified as young adult fantasy, but I think anyone could enjoy them. They don't have a lot of dark stuff, but lots of fantasy, adventure, and a little romance. I could compare them to Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine (and her other books), or maybe the works of Diana Wynne Jones, Robin McKinley, Tamora Pierce, Terry Pratchett, or even J.K. Rowling.
