About visualizing some of the scenes...

For the next two movies, I've been wondering how are they going to visualize some of the scenes conscerning their graphic behavior. I mean, the movies are supposedly all PG-13. You can't have throat-slicing, gorging, and full bodily nudity. Here are some of the specific ones I've been thinking about:

1.) Saruman's death. I heard they were going to impale him on a spike instead of slash his throat. Personally, I think they should stick to the book on this one. If they view it from a certain angle, you can still slash his throat without it being too "graphic" or at least "noticable". Believe me, it's possible.

2.) Sam's rescuing Frodo in the tower. Frodo is found *cough* nude. Then, he proceeds to walk around the room giving a speech to Sam...while he's still nude. I think Peter's just going to give him some clothes for that scene. Not that I personally care...

Well, what do you guys think?

Well, Titanic was PG-13 and there was nudity in that. They'll probably just a) give him some clothes or b) only show shots of him from the waist up.

Well . . . er . . . "visualizing" . . . ah, yes, and . . . I'll just stay out of this one, okay?

I wonder, how much did they have to pay to Elijah Wood to show himself naked in that scene?

I doubt he had to show himself naked. At least, I hope not. It's not necessary and some overly sexually minded people would probably interpret it at something more than platonic.
Actually, I'm interested in how (and if) they will show Frodo's face after he is stung my Shelob. I would really like to see him with a light sort of shining through. But I looked for that in Rivendell too and it didn't really happen . . . hmph.

Glad to see the girls only picking up on the nudity part

As for the big battles, if they are big enough it will actually help keep the rating down - showing thousands battling necessarily means that you can't focus on individual fighting.

Expect the close-ups to be similar to the Moria - lots of intense action and quick cuts so the only real feelings you get are:

A) there's a battle
B) it's all a bit chaotic

As for nudity, I hope they don't. Not because I'm male and heterosexual, nor because I don't want this board to degenerate into images of EW naked! But simply because I'm already sick of the 'Frodo and Sam are lovers' ****. In the book you take this on trust until the end. In the film PJ has deliberately given Sam a female romantic interest at the start to put people right about their sexuality. I think people today are too damn cynical and can't go and view the film with the 'innocence' it deserves.

As for Titanic, yup it had nudity (just breasts, no soft-porn shots), but I think you are only allowed to have so many instances of 'strong' things. EG a quick flash of EW's bottom would probably be fine (full male nudity has a strong artistic history even in PGs), or a bit of the old decapitation, but not both.

It's kind of like 15 rating films over in the UK. To get it down from an 18 to open to a wider audience, films are cut on a 'I'll trade you 2 'shits' for a '****'' etc. It's not what you show, it's context and how often.

I do hope they show enough close-ups in the battle to get some good Legolas & Gimli action. Especially Gimli, since he didn't get as much of the spotlight in FotR.

As for the nudity, I do NOT want to see EW naked!!! No, not even his butt!! His face is perfectly good enough for me, thank you. Besides, it's completely unnecessary and would cheapen the movie experience. It's different in the book because it doesn't affect the scene and I, at least, only picture his face and shoulders. Making him nude in the movie would make most of the audience completely forget what he is actually saying at the time. Anyway, ENOUGH of that.

As for Saruman, I also hope he doesn't die on a spike, but as long as he's killed by Wormtongue it doesn't matter that much.

I cant image any real harm being done to the movie if there is no nekkidness... I mean...well...I havnt gotten to that book yet...but it dosnt seem to be that it would kill anything if there were no nekkid, right?...wait...did that post make any sense?

I like EW,...but I dont like him enough to need to see him nekkid.
