GOLLUM/SMÉAGOL

We can't go back; we can't go back.
Can we precious?

The lake was smooth, the fish were biting
She shone above, cool water inviting
Something shinny near the bottom
Déagol saw it; it was my birthday

Give it here, my sweet, 'tis mine
It is my birthday and it's so fine
Déagols bloody throat lie open
His life exchanged for golden token

Her eyes can see us, we must hide
Somewhere dark must we abide
Down deep and cool by fish and pool
I miss Déagol; but it was my birthday

Look how it glistens and sparkles and shines
Here in my hand, here and all mine
We sits and we listens to what it tells us
How we are together until we are dust

So many years have come and gone
And precious, we, live on and on
Déagols voice is finally fading
Except at times when heart is aching

For once we lived by lake so smooth
And fished and laughed and sang a tune
Déagol and Sméagol with toes in water
But it was mine; it was my birthday

We can't go back; we can't go back,
Can we my precious?

Fool of a Took

FOOL OF A TOOK

FOOL OF A TOOK, YOU SILLY YOUNG THING,
THROW YOURSELF IN

LOOKING FOR MUSHROOMS AND TROUBLE OF COURSE
CAN'T STAY ON POOR BILLY, NO MATTER A HORSE
AND WHAT WAS THAT NOISE YOU MADE IN A WELL?
YOU WOKE UP THE ORCS AND CREATED SUCH HELL

YOU SLOW WITTED HOBBIT, HOW DO YOU PLEA?
IS LONGBOTTOM LEAF THE EXCUSE THAT YOU NEED?
THE OLD TOOK WOULD ROLL AROUND IN HIS GRAVE
AND LAUGH AT THE SILLY EXCUSE THAT YOU GAVE

WHY PIP, DID YOU STARE INTO THAT STONE?
AND GIVE THE GREAT EYE, A ROAD OF HIS OWN
OH SILLY YOUNG TOOK, YOU NEED TO GROW UP
THE WORLD IS AT RISK, STOP BEING A PUP

RIPPED FROM THE SHIRE YOU TRAVEL THE PLAIN
ON THE BACK OF A ORC, A WIZARD, AND MANE
UNDER WHIP, AND SWORD AND DANGER YOU GROW
TO BE AN OLD TOOK, THE WORLD YOU MUST KNOW

THE ENT DRAUGHTS HAVE MADE YOU GROW TALL
A CAPTAIN OF GONDOR DEFENDING IT'S WALLS
AND LOYALTY AND HEART HAS MADE YOU GROW UP
A KING AMONG HOBBITS, NO LONGER A PUP
RIDE TO THE SHIRE IN ARMOR SO FAIR
DEFEND OUR DEAR FRODO STILL BENT WITH SUCH CARE
YOUR WORD IS YOUR SWORD, YOU GIVE IT SUCH FLAIR
A FOOL OF A TOOK IS NO LONGER THERE

Feast for the Cleansing of the Greenwood

FEAST FOR THE CLEANSING OF THE GREENWOOD

Beachwood boughs with tips aflame.
By lamp lit paths they slowly came.
Laden carts rolled along, and everywhere there was a song

Oh Greenwood great, my woodland realm.
Crown of berries, red leaves his helm,
Elvenking on chair of carven wood, elves about, grey of hood.

Vintage wine of Dorwinion Gardens.
Living stone halls, great hearths to warm in.
Leave ponies at the stable, for you are called to Thranduil's table.

How now as Mirkwood were thee called?
Dol Guldur's shadow, orcs, black squirrels,
Insect eyes in the night, enchanted streams, spider fright.

Yet Great Eye could not prevail.
Eyrn Lasgalen was named, and cleansed was vale.
Come feast my friends, when you are able.
Your place is safe at Thranduil's table.

The Birth of Sun and Moon

THE BIRTH OF SUN AND MOON

Pale Isil changed and changing,
Firey Anar, each morn engaging,
Rána wanes as Elves sail west
Vása's heart light Men's breast.

Arien pulled the ship to shore
Tilion steered the Moon to more
And all the golden flowers of Vána
Shone in the dew of fair Laurelin

Bent was silver bow of Oromë
yet in Lórien dream pools form
Pools of Estë with flickering beam
Telperion's arms will guard it's sheen

Arien feared not the heats of time
a spirit of fire in life sublime
With eyes of flame she took her leave
And Eldar wept and Valinor grieved

Fingolfin's silver trumpets blew
The world had moonlight, Isil was NEW
And many things there stirred and woke
The Eldar marched to Middle-earth

In glory did Anar rise
with light that blinded all our eyes
Upon the towers of Pelóri
Did clouds above us blow so free

And as the drops of Water fell
did Morgoth fear and withdraw as well
Into the depths of Angband went
in depths and dark and hellish rent

To hide his face from Anar's glory
The waterfalls and Maiars fury
And Isil's glowing magic eye
And the Day-Star burning bright!

Tolkien Loves Arda

TOLKIEN LOVES ARDA
A thought, a theme, a world

I saw my mothers smile in the heat of Africa
Hilary looked up at me when our father died
Our ship sailed back to England

The trees in Sarehole welcomed me back home
Hilary and I ran over the hills for four years
It was the favorite time in my life

Mabel taught me God, England taught me Sir Edwards School
We moved to Birmingham in Mosely, Sarehole was gone forever
But I found my voice in a language

My sweet mother died of sugar at Rednal and Aunt Bea took us
Edith smiled at me from a door I dare not cross
And the cross looked down at me and denied Oxford

Finally Oxford, then Switzerland, then Edith of my life forever.
Together finally, then WAR takes it all from me, and I am gone
To Germany I go, and fever and nightmares return with me

Alone for a long while in hospital does the fever of my mind grow
To a land of Mordor, where many shadows go
I think of Sarehole, Mabel and Edith....I pass my hand over my eyes

Then there were sons and a daughter and life
A beauteous Luthien to remain as my wife
And tales to tell and tales to make
And ryhmes that were found in war's hellish wake

The world opened now before my wide eyes
Still colored by nightmares that still made me cry
But children and stories and a world that belied
All the hate and the fury we still wish to hide

For in a gentle hole, there dwelled a gentle Hobbit
A hole from Sarehole, and Africa's sun could not rob it
Nor the trenches of death, nor the halls of Oxford
Could steal fom my children a dishonest word

And as you sleep dear children of mine
And as I kiss each one of you in kind
Remember from Father comes at least this one thing
I give you a world where the crownless are King

Another year's gone by, and I was thinking once again,
How can I take this losing hand and somehow win?

Just give me One Good Year To get my feet back on the ground.
I've been chasing grace; Grace ain't so easily found
One bad hand can devil a man, chase him and carry him down.
I've got to get out of here, just give me One Good Year!

Here's Another

Thanks for your kind words. I hope you like this one:

FANGORN

The Ent reached down through root and bark, among the soil so rich and dark,
And deeply drank of Arda's life, through ages of the Elf Kin Strife.
He grew as ages came to bloom, as elves sailed west and men met doom.
Spreading ever arms a-wide, drinking draughts and making strides.

Then First-born came along to play, of languages and staying day,
And twilights spent among the swans, by hearth and home and singing songs.
The Ents made lists as was their way, of ages past and new born days.
Yet none could rival sweet memories, that Treebeard passed along the trees.

For he was oldest and most wise, and hid from Mordor's preying eyes.
Then one day was a fortune met, a ring that rules and a wizard's threat.
Hurons marched as dark through night, and dawn awoke a frightening site:
The Earth arose that day to claim, a broken oath and a wizard's shame.

Mirror on Middle-earth

Ok, one more to be polite:

Mirror on Middle Earth

Pour the water and breathe upon
A picture of life that's come and gone
And all the future there is to see
The visions in water are yet to be

A friends' dear face, lined with grief
The wilting of a Willow's leaf
The bright blue eyes of Lordly Elf
And Samwise' loyal giving self

These pictures pass before my eyes
The Art of Arda makes me wise
Inside my lingering heart I fear
These images hold life so clear

The light of Star-kindler from afar
Leads us to crossroads where we are
Challenged by Ring and Spider and Wraith
Swirling sights that challenge my faith

Pictures of Middle-earth hold sway
Of how I live from day to day
Not even a threat of going blind
Can erase these pictures from my mind

For here is a world that pierces heart
Surpasses all my visions of art
A texture so rich that I can touch
A picture inside me I love so much

Fangorn and Majah
2003

Dedicated to our love of Middle Earth AND Art

Hey, fangorn. Good to see ya!
Sorry I have'nt been on the board in a while, and I'll read this as soon as I've replenished the water in my blood, which was sweat from working for exactly $36.68. I'll droop by soon, though.
