In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.'

'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin

i could see most hobbit names but elves names would be incredibly hard for some kids to write if it had all the accents and dwarves names like dain would be okay but not gimli or gloin. i know some people with names from books like shakespeare but not lotr. i know a kid name tybalt and if i had a kid i could imagine calling him benvolio, ben for short

I knew a girl named Arwen. THis was her line:

"Yes I was named from LotR, no I haven't read the boks, yes I know that's bad." etc. SHe hated her parents b/c of her name.

Arwen is such a nice name though. If I had never heard of Lord of the Rings ( ), being named Arwen would not be wierd at all.

If I was her, I'd go read the books and find out what all the fuss is about. (I don't really blame her for not wanting to though.)

I'm pretty sure there's a girl in my class named Laurelin, Gwaimir. It sounds great.

The most obvious name for me (meaning, my kid) would be Tom, after Tom Bombadil. And my grandpa's name is Tom already, so I certainlny won't be criticised for something like that, and the kid probably won't either, as it's a common name.

I'd like to name my daughter after an Elf maiden, but it the reality is that it will most likely never fit her, because the name will be too beautiful even if she is pretty.

I think it'd have to be one of the more normal-sounding names in the book. Of course, you have a little more leeway with middle names. Arwen, for example, wouldn't be a bad middle name.

I dont think I would name any of my kids after anyone in LOTR (excpt my boy William (Bill), but I named him after my grandpa, my dad, and myself, not Bill Ferny), the names just arent my cup of tea, and imagine trying to convince the wife to name the next boy Finwe. I would name a girl Lorien, though, and maybe Idril for a middle name. There seems to me to be alot more usable names for girls than boys (Although, if I named a kid Turgon, he'd probably end up disappearing after he graduated high school anyway, and I wouldnt see him till the battle of Unnumbered Tears.)

I would LOVE to be named after someone in LOTR, whether it was Arwen, Arien, Galadriel, or Ingwe. My sister is named Ariel after the little mermaid, we adopted her and they [my parents] were wondering what her name should be. And my dad just says, hey, what was that name, from that movie, with the mermaid. and my mom was like, oh, the little mermaid, Ariel. he was like yeah, I like that, how about that for a name? so that was her name, Ariel.
I am planning on naming my kids after the elves, nothing to funny sounding or commonly knows, like Legolas, Elrond, Galadriel, Celeborn, Thranduil or anything like that. But maybe something interesting, I have always loved weird and foreign names and my kids will probablly get made fun of for their names, but oh well, they will just have to beat whoever does so its all good

The voices of my people that have gone before me?
I will leave, I will leave the woods that bore me;
For our days are ending and our years failing.
I will pass the wide waters lonely sailing.
Long are the waves on the Last Shore falling,
Sweet are the voices in the lost Isle calling,
In Eresëa, in Elvenhome that no man can discover,
Where the leaves fall not: land of my people forever!”

My math teacher loves LotR and has two daughters: one named Elanor, the other's middle name is Galadriel. Another baby is on the way, so I'm excited to see what he/she will be named!

I would definatly name my children with some Elvish name. It would be different, and make them special. (I'd like to point out that I'm rubbish with kids and never going to have one!) And I would mind having a name from the books either. Would be so much better than my real name....

i would definitely have LOTR play a part in my kids' names. Like some elvish name or sthg. but nothing too gaudy and odd like mallondwen said. I mean imgine having to go thru life with a name like Legolas......hehehehe....but Arwen and Elanor are really nice names.

Why would that be so unlikely? I think I wanna adopt a baby some day (though I don't like kids at all right now.. I feel just like you do, Lal.)

But I don't know if anyone would let you have a son if they knew what you are going to name him..
just kidding

They had the baby and it's a girl, and they named her Luthien! I was soo exited to hear that! Cool. Just thought I'd share.

That's so cool! If I could name my children after LOTR characters, these would be my picks for names:

Girls- (first names) Luthien, Eowyn, Lorien (middle names- not respectively ordered) Nimrodel, Tinuviel

Boys- (first names) Samwise, Gandalf (what?), um.... not too many of these, eh? (middle names) Estel, Boromir-?

I could most definately see myself naming my daughter Luthien Tinuviel Undomiel or just Luthien Tinuviel or my son Ecthelion Estel or something like that- even Legolas Estel and just call him Estel.

But I get the feeling that if I were to name him Legolas Estel he would hate me forever.
