Ethan Frome

I just finished this book recently - it was assigned to me in english.

It is apparently my english teacher's favorite book or something.

I didn't like it that much. It didn't have much of a plot, no action. The whole tale could have been told on one page.

Also it was way too depressing. I don't really see the point of the book.

one of my most hated books
i also had to read it for Literature, although my literature teacher shared my opinions that it wasnt an enjoyable read... My english teacher loved it though and she always tried to talk to me about it, i thought hell would freeze over before i would prefer to talk about books ive read than do an English lesson, well unless hell froze over i was wrong
it also spawned arguments in our literature class concerning the value of story and entertainment over the writing skills of an author, i was leaning more towards the story side and i think that explains why i despised Ethan Frome so much...

It's a long time since I read it, but I really enjoyed this book. Of course, if you only like books that have a great deal of plot, you might not like this, but it's well-written and sensitively-told - and depressing books do have a place in literature too, you know

I don't not like it because it is depressing - just another thing against it.

Imo, it was poorly written.

The way i see it - books are written for the readers, to entertain them or amuse them, etc. This seems to have been written only for the author.

No action, No romance, NOTHING.

I mean come on! There was maybe 1 tiny kiss is the whole book? He didn't even have an affair. That would have made it interesting.

Isn't that the whole point, that he doesn't have an affair? I mean, that is the plot
