There actually were such fights that took place in the Silmarillion. The one that comes to mind is when the Noldor returned to Middle-earth, and Angrod went to Doriath to speak to Thingol on behalf of the Noldor. When he returned and gave the Noldor Thingols message, the sons of Feanor were not happy with Thingol's welcome, but I believe it was Caranthir that struck out at the sons of Finarfin and made a somewhat insulting remark about their mother. I would quote it if I had the book handy.
There were also a few insults exchanged between Turgon and Eol.

The fight documented in Unfinished Tales between Turin and his archenemy Saeros is actually kind of amusing, until Saeros goes and gets himself killed, that is. Ok, so this technically isn't an exclusively Elven fight, since Turin's human... but close enough. Some of the more interesting parts are when Saeros insults Turin's messy hair and the girls back in Turin's home of Hithlum. Before you know it, Saeros is running buck-naked through the woods, with Turin chasing close behind. Definitely a must-read.

Searos actually insulted Turin's mother, Morwen. I found this to be a very sad part of the story. As Tolkien said, although Saeros desevered this, it was a grievous thing to put any of the Eldar to shame.

It was sad. But at the same time, it was inexplicably funny. Or maybe that's just me.
