Gandalf Who voted LotR the "book of the century"?

I, of course agree. What criteria did they use? Is there an internet site with the list?

I don't know, but if it was voted the book of the century, it was also voted the book of the Millenium, which is why they came out with a Millenium Edition. I know in that 'poll', or whatever it was (I think it was a nation wide poll), Gone With the Wind came second.

1997, I believe.

It was certainly not the only instance where LOTR was voted the Book of the Century, but certainly the most prominent (and controversial) case.
