Gandalf gandolf the not so main person

We all know that Gandolf is the greatest, hes is even called Sarons enemy. I would have like it if tolken had wrote a book were Gandolf was the main person.....anyone agree?

No, I think one of the reasons why The Lord of the Rings works as well as it does is because one of Tolkien's central themes is that the Most Powerful, or Greatest as you call it, are not necessarily the truest heroes. It's a tale about the triumph of the weak, because they refuse to be powerful.

That's why you essentially have a story about how Frodo and Sam start out in their little Shire, and are then thrust into a world of all these fantastic powers - yet in the last few chapters, that fantasy world fades away piece by piece as if they were a dream.

*nodnod* By the way, it's Gandalf not gandolf and Sauron not Saron, and Tolkien not tolken.

I get finicky about spelling and grammer. Sorry.
