Gandalf forgotten things from the fellowship of the ring

maybe these things arent so much forgotten about as they are not to remembered to talk about.

bilbo leaves bag end with three dwarves after his talk with gandalf.

a fox stops and looks at the hobbits while they are asleep under a tree on thier journey to crickhollow.

frodo and meriadoc have been in the old forest before

tom bombadil is considered a possibility as caretaker of the ring

bill the pony is bought from bill ferny(okay you knew that)

butterbur's beer is the best(hey, a tonguetwister!) after gandalf says and i qoute: may your beer be the best for 800 years!
-hectorberlioz
postscript:tell these things to other people who have not the memory!

800 years? It was only 7 years. The fox would have been nice.

Are you guys talking about things they should have put in the movie? or things you think people have forgotten from the book? If it's about the book, this is in the wrong forum. I'm just confused.

People seem to often forget that Gandalf didn't come with all his fireworks in one cart. Carts actually started coming a couple weeks before the party I think.

I read that in FOTR last night!!! Dwarves came in a cart a couple of days before Gandalf who arrived with his firecrackers alone...FRODO did NOT go with him

Some people forget that there are hobbits in Bree, I mean I read FOTR and I completely FORGET that there are hobbits in the Prancing Pony.
It's easy to forget that Gandalf's really a dangerous wizard not to be meddled with.
That's all I can think of,
Cheers,
Sam.

The bit with the fox is actually a very interesting moment in the book. It is the one instance when Tolkien switches into animal personification, and looks at things from a neutral, third-party perspective. You'll notice that such moments from Book I are very much in the same mode as The Hobbit.

Not to be mean to poor old TB but it would have probably been too much to include him in the movie. But I found it rather annoying that the hobbits were gevin the weapons in such a simple manner. Or that Aragorn was just carrying them around for a such an accasion to come up. I like the fact the hobbits had to work through their fears to recieve the weapons. It would have been cool to see them go through Barrow downs.

They also left out:

Sam's view of the mirror of Galadriel.

How Frodo was unconcious and Aragorn carried him out of that chamber in Moria and Frodo awoke in his arms.

Aragorn singing to Arwen the elf lament.

The visit to the Hall of Fire which would have been nice.

The escape of the ponies which led to the purchasing of Bill.

Frodo's song.

I know this is confusing, but according to the thread starter, this thread is about "little things" that happened in the books that are often forgotten about. This is NOT a thread about the movies (he said it had been put in the wrong forum by accident, so it was moved to this forum). Just wanted to clarify that. Movie comments are welcome in the similar thread(s) in that forum.

How about the fact that Aragorn informs Frodo of Pippin's big mouth.

Or how the famous poem by Bilbo is about Aragorn in discription.
