CHAT SCHEDULE

I've got a chatroom set up at Robert W. Gardner's Interests if y'all ever want to schedule a chat together.

I'm generally available most evenings after 8:00 PM Central Time.

We've talked about chats before, and a lot of folk do ICQ, but if y'all ever want to schedule a chat or try to put together a regular weekly chat we can talk about it here.

My experimental link above will be available anytime, I'm sure. I don't have to be there. It runs as a JAVA Applet. (I think.) Access it, hit the float button, and then do whatever you like with your browser.

Not to "steal your thunder" or anything but would you be interested in an "official" Entmoot/Tolkien Trail chat room? I've already gotten a room set up... I just haven't publicized it.

I believe the server is irc.sorcery.net and the channel is #tolkientrail

Hmmmm... I assume that's some sort of independant server. It's definitely not EFnet...

Darn. I bet I'll have to finally break down and download an irc program now. (Even though I now have a decent enough internet connection to actually be able to do it, I've been putting it off because I hate learning new chat programs and I always feel guilty because I have no credit card and cannot register.)

I don't know if you've ever tried to have meetings in ICQ Chat. I have. Don't try it. It doesn't work. People with the Mac version can't chat with more than one other person.

I'd be interested, though for some folk, software downloads or anything more complicated than clicking a java applet will be exclusionary. I haven't had any problems, so far, with this particular applet, the Yahoo Chat is a bummer.

I assume the ICQ Applet is Mac compatible.

I'm really not arguing for one or the other, especially since I haven't tried the other!

ICQ for the mac sucks, I have it because of ppl I know who don't have aim, but I use it only when I have to

First off Shan, I have a Mac! Be thankful, I am going to spare you my tirade.
Second, Mac users CAN chat in ICQ with more than one person. I have witnesses if need be.
And third, it is working fine.......I too am listed as an OP.

If it _is_ an indie server, you should get #tolkientrail set up with the local chanserv bot... to avoid takeovers, you see...

i've chatted once or twice with anduin and others Entmooters in an ICQ chat window. i cannot remember if Tater was there, but i don't think so because he says that's not possible <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\">

I believe you, anduin, I really do, so could you tell me how a Mac ICQ user can chat with more than one person? I would really like to know. This could be quite useful.

Anywho, if it weren't for my Mac there would be NO images on the tolkien trail!!!

SarahStar....I added you to my ICQ list. Next time you're available maybe we can figure out the problem together.

May I ask how I can get to this server and channel if I don't have a downloaded irc program? I don't believe I will be able to, as I am mostly using my university's computer labs.

I just found a site that might or might not be a way to solve the chatroom problem:
a site called www.chatweb.net/ will allow the creation of free private chatrooms that are deleted at 4am daily, but are available until then without charge. Perhaps we could schedule chats here, with one person who is in the mood opening a room, then coming here to post notice of the room availability for anyone who cares for a chat. I have not tried it yet, but I do have a room ready if anyone wants to try it. Currently it is 10:33 pm (my time) and if you want to chat, let me know that you are interested at ICQ # 82739769 in the next few minutes. Otherwise, I can arrange to come back to this thread around 1:00pm tomorrow (on Sat.) and make the same offer again, in case anyone wants to test and see if this will work. Alternately, email me at unicorn315@yahoo.com and perhaps we can schedule something that might be fun for us all, but obligates none of us to the work of monitoring a chat room.
