Any fans of Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser stories by Fritz Leiber?

If you have not read them, all fantasy fans should check them out!!!!

Yeah.

I bought the newest editions of the books, all the stories are collected in 4 volumes and I've read 2 of them.

My favourite story has to be 'The Howling Tower.'

I guess my favorite is the novel "The Swords of Lankmar". But, most of them are very pleasing.

Difficult to describe. I would categorize them as "sword and sorcery" like Conan the Barbarian, but not as bloody and with alot of humor. the two heros are rogues, and hired theives, but they have a good heart. They were quite popular in the 60's, so I am unsure of how easy it will be to find the books(6 small paperbacks). Here are the book titles I can remember...

Swords and Deviltry (short stories)
Swords Against Wizardry (two novellas)
The Swords of Lankmahr (Novel)
Swords In the Mist

These are the best ones. Do an internet search to find out more.

I would highly recommend any of the first three I mentioned as a good starting point. The first one (Deviltry) is a good starting point, but the novel "The Swords of Lankmahr" is the best! Try finding a copy online or in a good used bookstore.

RE

They've been re-released recently as 4 volumes containing all the old books. They're called:

Ill Met in Lankhmar, Lean times in Lankhmar, Return to Lankhmar and Farewell to Lankhmar.

I assume the one titled "Farewell to Lankhmar" contains Swords and Ice Magic, and the last book(forgot title). These 2 were my least favorite of the series...I don't know why...the stories just did not seem to have the pizazz of the rest.

To mirrille:

Go to amazon.com and do a search for "Lankhmar series" it shows some of these
books, there are also 2 top fantasy lists on the side of the page wich include one of these books in their top ten.
I tried posting a link, but it did not work!

Well, with a sig. like mine....

Yes, absolutely wonderful- the humor is much more low-key and ironic than, say, Terry Pratchett.

And don't forget the kinky stuff

Fritz Leiber wrote a lot of other good stuff, too - his short stories are generally his best, but "The Big Time", a short novel in his ChangeWar stories, is excellent.
