Gollum ~* Faramir *~

[Spoiler]
To me, personally, I expected more from the familiar character, Faramir, brother of Boromir, son of Denethor. I had previously seen various portraits of Faramir, and it would seem that he had a much different personality than Boromir. That was not so, it seemed, in the movie. Faramir harbored a personality that more alike to Boromir than how the book portrayed his character. He was, though, drawn into the power of the Ring, but to some extent he welcomed Frodo and Sam and eventually, after making quick and reliable friends, he let them go [also after he offered them food for their trip]. I would have expected Faramir to have more of a personality of his own, but in the movie he seemed a bit "out of the picture" and almost afraid and not enough valiant. I mean, come on! This guy is brother to Boromir and is son of a King! I'll be looking forward to seeing him fight in the Return of the King. Most likely they'll have him being chased down by a Nazgul and hiding in the trenches.

'There was no need. He halted just by us and looked down at us. "Gandalf!" I said at last, but my voice was only a whisper. Did he say: "Hullo, Pippin! This is a pleasant surprise!" No, indeed! He said: "Get up, you tom-fool of a Took! Where, in the name of wonder, in all this ruin is Treebeard? I want him. Quick!"'

'What are we going to do now then?' asked Pippin, undaunted by the wizard's bristling brows.
"Knock on the door with your head, Peregrin Took,' said Gandalf. 'But if that does not shatter them, and I am allowed a little peace from foolish questions, I will seek for the opening words.'

'Fool of a Took!' he growled. 'This is a serious journey, not a hobbit walking-party. Throw yourself in next time, and then you will be no further nuisance. Now be quiet!'

Welcome to Entmoot, straight_face! Elf Girl is right, we have a few threads about Faramir in the movie being different than the book; one is called "Mean Faramir," another is called "The Moral Belittling of Faramir," and I'm sure there's another one or two. So I'm going to close this one and I hope you'll post your thoughts in one of those threads. Just do a search and you'll find one (or just scroll down the forum page and you'll see one).
