James Harriot
Has anyone ever read of James Harriot's work? Its great stuff. If you're an animal lover you'd love these books. If you're not you still might like them.

Could you name some titles you'd recommend, and describe them briefly?
Are they animal-personification, or do they appeal to animal-lovers in some other way?

The only title I can think of now is his "Dog Tales" or something like that. It's composed of (get this) tales about dogs. They're all true stories about his life as a country vet. I think they're set in England.

Anecdotes by a country vet working the Yorkshire Dales. Time period is vaguely around the 1930s and 1940s. The stories are very very sweet and cute and funny. There are just a series of stories about the funny situations and people you come across as an English country vet in that time period. I'm not a big animal lover, but the stories are really quite funny. If you are interested, the most famous is "All Creatures Great and Small". But there's a whole series along the same lines. There is also a cute television series based on this series.

mmm...my grandma had all of those books. I used to read them when we would go to her house on Sunday afternoons for tea.
The book titles run just like the old hymn. They are: -All things bright and beautiful -All creatures great and small -All things wise and wonderful -The Lord God made them all and -James Herriot's Dog Tales (note the correct spelling of his name ) my favorite was always the story about Moses the kitten

Viewers of the TV series please note, he should have been played with a Scottish accent! He spent all his working life in England but was originally a Glaswegian.

His stories are full of warm fuzzies. I happen to be an animal lover, and I enjoyed this book so much, I tried to pace myself, rather than gobble it up like I usually do. Sometimes sad, but mostly upbeat. Adventures of brother Tristan and boss Sigfried are laugh-out-lound funny. It's a quiet, enchanting book, not unlike the Hobbit.
