Malfoy's hair color

Maybe someone can help me out here. When I saw the Harry Potter movies, I was surprised by Draco's hair color. For some reason I pictured him as being dark-haired while reading the books. I noticed in Order of the Phoenix that Rowling makes it a point to mention Malfoy's white-blond hair. I think that this is a deliberate tie-in to the movie. Does she mention what color his hair is anywhere before Order of the Phoenix?

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Malfoy is described as being a pale boy. In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Malfoy is described as follows
Quote:
The man who followed could only be Draco’s father. He had the same pale, pointed face and identical cold, gray eyes.
In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Malfoy is again described as having a pale pointed face. Finally, in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, I found this in the chapter ‘The Quidditch World Cup’
Quote:
A pale boy with a pointed face and white-blond hair, Draco greatly resembled his father. His mother was blonde too; tall and slim, she would have been nice-looking if she hadn’t been wearing a look that suggested there was a nasty smell under her nose.

I don't blame you there. For the first 3 books, I imagined Draco as a pale boy with dark hair. I suppose this may because of the stereotype of "evil" people- dark haired but pale.
Good quotes, Silpion.

I'm going to re-read all the books soon. I too imagined Draco as having black hair.

I looked back to book one and they describe him as being only a pale faced boy - no mention of hair color.

But I do believe that I remember seeing some reference to his hair color BEFORE the movie came out in one of the books.

I imagined him bloned (well, blonde-white means he's getting old, no?). Probably because it was ht efirst long book I read (I mean - 300 pages was pretty long for me) and I reread it many times. I know everything in the books, except the fifth. (which I don't know much yet. I will know everyhing about it too when it'll be transalted)

Malfoy's hair color was first described in Prisoner of Azkaban, which came out in 1999 two years before the first movie.

It's in the mud-throwing scene in Hogsmeade. Here's the passage (it's in the chapter "Snape's Grudge" if anyone wishes to look it up):

Quote:
Malfoy's head jerked forward as the mud hit him; his silver-blond hair was suddenly dripping with muck.
Am I the only person who seems to be able to pick up character's actual hair colors? First Frodo, now Malfoy.

I noticed, both of them, and did you know that Draco Malfoy's actor, a.k.a. Tom Felton's real hair color is BROWN

I always pictured Malfoy as having blond hair because when a person is pale skinned - usually they have blond hair. Not always of course - they can be pale and have red hair too. Generally though - pale skin implies blond hair.

True, true, JD. Though quite a bit of people with black hair are pale-skinned.

Now, now. Frodo's hair colour was a bit ambiguous, IIRC.

yeah on a side note i think Dudley was the screwup, i can never imagine him with Blonde hair the movie righted Rowlings trivial mistake but if i see a blonde boxer i will always think of that loser Steve off Tekken 4 (or worse Dolph Lungren in Rocky 4 )
with Draco the blonde hair sorta gave him and Lucius the elitist dodgy look while still appearing nice and respectable. Snape looked more suspicious than Lucius, and something that fits in well with the stories.

Continuing that side note, Dudley was described himself as being similar to a pig wearing a blonde wig.

It's good that they're blonde and don't follow the stereotype of "bad" characters, that is, dark hair. It's better that way.

I've bleached my hair before many times, so I could tell Tom Felton had bleached his. That's exactly the color mine turned out. The roots are always whiter than the rest of it, which always has a more yellow tinge to it.

As for Frodo's actual hair color, go here and look for my post with a quote from FotR in it. Frodo's hair color is given to us thanks to Nob.

Tom was in a movie when he was much younger called "The Borrowers". I believe his hair is noticably brown in that one. I can't really remember it that well.
