quick Q- contact lenses- astigmatism?

Hey. Can you wear regular prescription, non-toric lenses if you have astigmatism? What would happen?

The reason I am asking is because I was looking to buy a set of colored contact lenses for one eye (I have dark brown eyes and I was thinking of something in violet or blue for one eye) and the only colored toric contact lenses I can afford don't come in my 'cylinder' measurement. Mine is -.50 and the lowest they have is -.75. Plus the regular ones are cheaper and they have nicer, brighter colors...

I have astigmatism, and I wear soft, 30 wear lenses. (If you want you can get colour ones I think.) They are made for my perscription though, so they might be shaped for my astigmatism. If you wore "unshaped" ones, I imagine that you could wear them but the perscription would be less effective. You should probably talk to your optometrist.

Yea for us, we have rugby ball shaped corneas!

how ironic i just got contacts yesterday and i also have a stigmatism you can wear them but with my eye lids they are small so they are hard to open but the contact still fits the shape of my eye. im supposed to take them out right now but im tired of poking my eyes

I have quite bad astigmatism and I have tried one-day soft lenses, but they don't really work for me. It depends how serious the astigmatism is - my friend has it too but to a lesser degree, so she can wear soft contact lenses with no problems. Astigmatism is no problem for hard gas permeable lenses AFAIK. All that would happen if you wore ones that weren't right for you would be that you wouldn't be able to see as well from that eye, so it depends how much that bothers you.

BTW, violet and brown eyes - very cool
