Thanks. I grew up watching Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, and Fraggle Rock.

Outside Time Magazine and National Geographic, those shows taught me a lot of my english.

Hello! I'd first like to say, everyone's songs on this have been really cool! I don't believe I didn't get on this thread earlier, but I've got an attempt to share...
It's to the song 'Tribute' by Tenacious D... I know it's all out of character, but it's meant to be funny... key word *meant*. Hope you like it!

This is the greatest and best ring in the world – tribute
A long time ago me and Samwise were walking down a long and lonesome road
All of a sudden
There hissed a hissing Gollum
In the middle of the road
And he said:
“Give me the best
Ring in the world
Or I’ll eat your souls”
Well me and Samwise
We looked at each other
And we each said
“NO WAY!”
And we yelled the first things that came to our heads and they just so happened to be
“The best Ring in the World!”
“The best Ring is for me!”
Look into my eyes and
It’s easy to see
They made twenty rings
And the One’s for me
It was Destiny.
Once every age or so to Mordor one comes
To where the moon don’t shine
And the sun don’t glow
And lets nothing gro-w…

Needless to say
Gollum was stunned
He hissed and screeched and spat
But then he was done
He asked us
‘Be you elveses?’
And we said “Nay,
We are but Hobbits!”
Woah, woah, oh ho
This is not the greatest ring in the world, no
This is a tribute
We couldn’t save the greatest ring in the world
From Samath Naur
It was the greatest ring in the world

And the peculiar thing is this my friends
The things we said on that fateful day didn’t actually sound anything like this song!
This is a tribute
You gotta believe us
And I wish you had been there
It’s not a matter of opinion
Good guys
Dark Lords
Evil rings and Magic swords

PS: I may have missed a few lines - I've got to check the song again. Sorry!
Lanelf.

Oh WOW! You liked it!!! Happyhappyhappy! *hugs everyone* I didn't think anyone would like it! *bounces around happily*
And it didn't actually take that long to write... My sister was playing it just about non-stop in the room next to me - guess who bought the CD! - and I just got the idea and wrote it.
How do the rest of you come up with songs? Do you want to write one and then think of potential songs or what?
Luv ya

I enjoy reading the new ones though I'm not sure I know the songs they were based on.

Anyway, here's some Bob Dylan...

Floatin’ To Valinor
(Originally KNOCKIN' ON HEAVEN'S DOOR by Bob Dylan, revived by Guns n’ Roses)

Manwe, take these hobbits from me
I can't lead them anymore.
It's gettin' far, that bridge for me to see
I feel like I'm floatin’ to Valinor.

Float, float, floatin’ to Valinor
Float, float, floatin’ to Valinor
Float, float, floatin’ to Valinor
Float, float, floatin’ to Valinor

Manwe, hide Glamdring in the Sea
I can't slay orcs anymore.
That mine’s Balrog is comin' down
I feel like I'm floatin’ to Valinor.

Float, float, floatin’ to Valinor
Float, float, floatin’ to Valinor
Float, float, floatin’ to Valinor
Float, float, floatin’ to Valinor

Don't Wanna Be Cremated
(Originally I WANNA BE SEDATED by the Ramones)

Refrain:
Twenty-twenty-twenty-four hours ago
Don't wanna be cremated
Viewing a stone, my dad's gone loco, oh
Don't wanna be cremated

Just get me to Elessar, he'll save me from the wraith
Hurry hurry hurry, my Dad is so insane
The fact that I'm unconscious, and can't control the flames
Oh no oh oh oh oh

Refrain

Remove me from this darned crypt, get me to the plains
Hurry hurry hurry, my Dad is so insane
The fact that I'm unconscious, and can't control the flames
Oh no oh oh oh oh

Refrain

Remove me from this darned crypt, get me to the plains
Hurry hurry hurry, my Dad is so insane
The fact that I'm unconscious, and can't control the flames
Oh no oh oh oh oh

Refrain

Remove me from this darned crypt, get me to the plains
Hurry hurry hurry, my Dad is so insane
The fact that I'm unconscious, and can't control the flames
Oh no oh oh oh oh

Ba-ba-baba, baba-ba-baba, don't wanna be cremated
Ba-ba-baba, baba-ba-baba, don't wanna be cremated
Ba-ba-baba, baba-ba-baba, don't wanna be cremated
Ba-ba-baba, baba-ba-baba, don't wanna be cremated

ok, i was trying to come up with a sensible reply to this, but when I tried to dissect the songwriting process I realized that I don't really know how i come up with songs.... it's usually past my bedtime. I think the idea comes first.... and then I write some lyrics, and start singing them to random songs until I find one that fits. then the rest of the lyrics kinda mold themselves around the song I've chosen to borrow. i'd be curious to know how other people create their songs, too, because everyone's come up with some really great ones!

i also want to write my own melodies, but of course there's no way to transmit them via this medium. unless.... i don't suppose you guys know how to read tablature? that would take up a LOT of space, I spose. never mind.

Arwen Undomiel I have one

But you wont like it

"Where are you going little Samwise Gamgee? If you want to live, you'd better follow me. To the house of Elrond where the broken sword lies, to the home of Arwen healthy, and wise. She'll ask you some questions, be fair and true, and if you are lucky she'll watch over you! So go thru the forest and seek thru the trees. And there you will find her. Little Samwise Gamgee."

Hi Minyacamie,

If you want a copy, Eruviel Greenleaf has the latest doc file with most of the songs. She's maintaining it. :

Anyway, I sorta remember Finrod Felagund planning on posting a Superman parody a few months back.

I couldn't find it but here's mine:

SUPERELF
(Originally SUPERMAN Performed by Five For Fighting)

I can't stand to fly
I'm no bird, Gwaihir
I'm just out to find
The halflings dear to me

I'm more than a man...I'm more than an Elf
More than that Saruman who likes himself
It's not easy to be me

Wish that I could die
Sail to Western Seas
Valinor there lies
Lorien's a home I'll hope to see

It may sound absurd...but don't you judge me
Even Maiar have the right to bleed
There may be more wraiths...but don't you concede
Even Sauron fears his end is near
It's not easy to be me

Up, up and away...away from Bree
It's all right...Gondor can sleep sound tonight
I'm not crazy...like Bombadil...

I can't stand to fly
I'm no bird, Gwaihir
Istari do not ride
With feathers on their knees

I'm more than an Elf in a silly white sheet
Leading some Elves and Men who will not retreat
More than an Elf with a staff and white sheet
Smoking some ships and rings, Longbottom Leaf

It's not easy to be me.
