Considering Bombur is a dwarf and shorter than a man, a fairly large man would weigh more. Maybe Beorn.

The innkeeper at the Prancing Pony. His name escapes me. Butterburn or something. He was a big guy.

barliman butterbur just to be padantic
i imagine that most men would be heavier than poor old bombur...
i would think that beorn would be heavier aswell but does he actually count as a man? i guess in his man form he does...
i always imagined old tom bombadil as a pretty well built fellow.

At Rivendell, Frodo was told by Glóin that Bombur was now so fat it took seven young Dwarves to lift him from his couch to the dinner table, IIRC. Now Dwarves are strong and sturdy. How much could a young Dwarf lift? But then of course there is the aspect getting a good grip - but perhaps they used some kind of aiding devise. Let us just for speculation guess that Bombur weighed up to 1000 pounds. If any of the categories you mentioned weighed more, I can only think of a very large Orc, But even that is doubtful.

Possibly the balrog.
I don't want to start a big tangenital (hee hee, I said 'tangenital' hee hee hee) discussion, but I thought balrogs had very little physical form. They seemed to me to be mostly fire and smoke and
( wings )
stuff that was just supposed to scare most sane people away. Their real power was is magical form which is why only a wizard or other magical peoples could fight.

I think it is incorrect to say that. Balrogs were superior warriors also in any conventional meaning.

I was joking. Actually I think that since Balrogs were described to be great absences of light (therefore possibly form) they may have had an incredible anti-weight!

(Happy Birthday to meeeeee)

I'd say Butterbur (oh what a great character) or Beorn. Well Beorn could change his shape however he wanted, which means he could change his wheight as well. I think I have just found the newest diet craze!: shape shifting!

First: Happy Birthday!
Second: Balrogs do not have wings! at least, that's how I read it...
Third: I don't think Barliman Butterbur could possibly be quite that fat! It may be possible, but I always thought Dwarves were somehow stockier and heavier than Men. Not sure... Does Beorn actually count, if he's not actually a 'man, dwarf, elf, orc or wizard'? And the Balrog is a Maia, which Gandalf is, but not actually an Istari (wizard) so does it count either?
Lanelf.

That one Goblin-King in The Hobbit was described as being very large, wasn't he?
