The Phantom of the Opera (New Movie)

Has anyone else seen the Movie that just came out, The Phantom of the Opera?

If you haven't you MUST go see it. It is truly beautiful and moving. The sets, the singing, the acting, the special effects... everything was perfect.

I read some reviews that said the acting was terrible, with the exception of Christine. This guy at my church wanted me to go see it with him this Saturday. I guess I will.

I've yet to see it, in theater or the cinema. This makes me sad (more the lack of seeing it in the theater). I adore the music.

I enjoyed it...I thought that the phantom was good...not great, but good...I adored Christine and quite liked Raoul as well.

Minnie Driver played her role well too.

I LOVED it. The acting wasn't great... well, the Phantom (Wasn't it Gerard Butler?) could act, but my mother and I have taken to refering to Raoul as 'Mr. Cardboard'. Christine's singing was amazing, but as an actress she was just... there. She was fine but didn't bring anything special to the role. The sets were AMAZING and the music of course was beautiful.

I bought the soundtrack. And ordered the sheet music so I can play it on my flute. Yay!

I just saw it. I always loved the music, and I read the book a long time ago but this was the first time I ever saw it. I loved it. I thought all the actors did a great job.

I saw the thing as a stage productiopn and as the movie. The play was abselutely stunning, it gave me goosebumps. But I'm afraid the movie was rather dull. The music (the very essence of it all) was a disappointment and Christina was a bad actress. I was not impressed.

Though I have to give them a little credit. The start, where they lift the chandelier, was great.

I watched it every day for the first week after I got it. I don't have time anymore, but I have three cds so it's okay. I'm actually listening to it right now. I hope I get the chance to see it onstage someday. They had a prize to see it on Broadway when I bought it, but I wont win.

I couldn't enter.

So I finally saw it for the first time.

Sorry, Tessar, but I think it was a pretty bad movie.

Pros:

The set's and costumes were spectacular to see.

Cons:

The acting was ...ugh. Not good.

The singing couldn've been way better, except for Christine. I actuall listened to some of the songs dubbed in French, and their singing was much better.

Not enough close-ups. It wasn't a movie.

And the synchronization? Don't get me started...the only one who could do it well was Carlotta...and that wasn't her studio singing!

It moved so dreadfully slowly. I like Webber's music and the original plot is decent, but this movie? 30 minutes into it I kept thinking...this goes on 140 minutes? Huh? They must've miss-typed the length on the dvd case. And at 60 minutes I felt like we'd had enough. It just was soooooo slow.

Take a movie like Jane Austen's Persuasion. That moves really slowly too. But it has the characters and conflicts driving it. The plot may take forever but you never feel like that. In Phantom everything was slow. There was almost nothing (except curiosity, I suppose) that made me want to finish it.

I watched it in two sessions (about 1/2 last night and 1/2 this morning). I don't think I could've even stood to see it all at once.

EDIT: The phantom was not nearly hideous enough. We are supposed to be revolted when his mask is ripped off...where's the recoiling in fear?

But I don't know if I should see the movie as well. So many people who have seen it have the same opinion as Mercutio

Well as long as we're still talking this movie to death; it stunk, IMO. I've seen the original and at least one remake but watching the latest venue on PPV made me glad I didn't pay more to see it. A Huge disappointment.

As a plot Phantom of the opera is alright, but I love the music. Personally I think whoever composed it was a genius. Without the music, it wouldn't have become as famous as it is.

The person who composed the music for The Phantom of the Opera is Andrew Lloyd Webber. As for the plot the book was written by Gaston Leroux.
