Most valiant?

Who of the company do you think was the most valiant? (besides Sam and Frodo)

I would have to say Gimli, cuz in Moria he discovered Balin and co. were dead, and he had to just keep on going and pretend it hadn't happened. None of the Company seemed to offer much sympathy to him.

Admins., I couldn't find a thread like this using the search, but if there is one, close this and forgive me.

Most valiant? Hmmm hard one! I could say Merry, because he helped to kill the witch king (but then, Aragorn took them on at Weathertop, in which case, I should say Aragorn), Eowyn, for daring to break out of the traditional feminine role, Galadriel for passing the test, Elves in general, for accepting their fates, and 'dying out', Gandalf, for taking on a fellow Maiar (Balrog), Boromir, for his last stand, Gollum, for helping his nice hobbit friends, and for striving to be good... until it all went horribly wrong..., Legolas, and Gimli, for their humour and courage, in battle... Oh I could go on! How to single any one individual out? If I had to, I'd go with tradition, and say Gandalf, for facing a foe considered to be one of the most powerful of the time.

A tie between Boromir and Aragorn. They all were very noble, but some of them broke down at particular instances. Legolas with the balrog, Gimli on the paths of the dead... Gandalf would also be there, but since he is of a higher race, he doesn't quite count, in my mind.

I would say Boromir because of the way he fought for Merry and Pippin. He had succumbed to the ring, and sunk to the lowest depths. But his strength of character returned just when it would have been easy to give up. He rose above the corruption and found the courage to fight against losing odds to protect the hobbits.

Yes, I agree that it's Boromir. He had the hardest time of all, struggling against the Ring, but he overcame it in the end and sacrificed himself. Gimli's runner-up for walking the Paths of the Dead.

It wasn't Eowyn, because while her deeds were certainly valiant, she wasn't fighting fear like Merry, she was wishing for death.

Definately Merry.

If Sam and Frodo don't count, I think it's Aragorn. But, I feel like being different, so PIPPIN! He was the youngest and most inexperienced in a group of adults who have seen unbelievable things. Pippin proved himself worthy of being with them. However, I really think its Aragorn. But I'm sick today; in a mad mood, and I feel like playing Devil's Advocate.
