Tell me about it! I'm saving up my earnings from my parttime job to buy so much stuff to take to Russia: I've bought Foster's Guide to Middle-earth, UT, Tolkien Man and Myth, and a single-volume copy of LOTR recently, and I've still got the HoMe series (Gonna be one BIG order

), a new Silmarillion, a new Hobbit, a copy of Dracula, of course Entlover's Ring of the Dark Elves, a few Zero Mostel shows, a bazillion books about Tolkien and his works, a specific album of Gregorian Chants, I want to purchase the Belgariad and the Malloreon, and now I find all these books!

(In case you couldn't tell, I don't plan to go to Russia unprepared

)

It's all a matter of seeing how much I can fit in...

EG, how do you know Vlad was ugly? Historical accounts?

I am so into Dracula. My answers to the survey:
1) I have read Dracula many, many times.
2) and 3)I've seen Nosferatu, the Bela Lugosi version, Hammer's The Horror of Dracula (starring Saruman), the Frank Langella version, and Bram Stoker's Dracula.
4) I've read Dracula's Guest. Other than that, he didn't write any other books on Dracula, though he left the book open for a sequel, he just never got round to it.
5) For me, Dracula is a concept that surpasses his own book or any specific actor's portrayal. I don't know that I PREFER the book to the various films, as the book has its own flaws.
6) My favorite adaptation is Bram Stoker's Dracula, as I think Gary Oldman really nailed it and I love the cheesiness of it all. My sister and I still constantly quote lines from it (in Oldman's and Anthony Hopkins' accents, not to mention Keanu Reeves' accent! Ha!).
7) I think Bram Stoker's Dracula is the closest adaptation, much as it might vary from the novel, as most film versions, such as the Bela Lugosi and Frank Langella ones, are adapted from the stage play rather than the novel.
8) Of course I know my man Vlad Tepes!
That out of the way, for those who have read the book, am I the only one who can't stand that Dracula isn't destroyed properly? They stick him with a plain knife and he "vanishes." Why are all those stupid mortals convinced they got him after Van Helsing went into exhaustive detail on how it's done? And if they are dumb enough to think Dracula destroyed, why doesn't Van Helsing correct them? This is why I say the book has flaws.

The wording is ambiguous. They don't explicitly say that his head was cut off.

I always read "through" as in "in one side and out the opposite or another side of", like if a train went through a tunnel.

Of course! Never too much. I'll eventually have a whole library...unfortunately a good proportion of the books I want (Like...75%) aren't in English.

Well, I have a good portion of my Tolkien library, and the rest will be vampire lore, other mythology, history, and philosophy. I like having a nice range.

Yes, other mythology is a must, with Ring of the Dark Elves standing in a place of honour.

Definitely will have Dracula, maybe a few other editions. And various other works of Stoker's.
