FotR music and it's associations

I've heard bits of the soundtrack (off to buy it tomorrow , and several bits immediately transport me back to the film.
Obvious ones are:

1) Lovey-dovey bit of Aragorn and Arwen on bridge
2) The whole Moria / Balrog bit
3) Shire music, the sweeping sweet bit when the camera pans up as the kids all leg it towards Gandalf

and my personal fave is:

4) The Isengard music which goes with the pan up Orthanc to Gandalf, who has a chat with Mr Moth, then the crescendo as the camera drops off the side and plunges down into the pits below Isengard (surely this must be where Saruman plumets to his death?)

Unmemorable bits include Boromir's death scene - can't for the life of me remember it at all.
Also, I really don't like the entrance to Lothlorien music.
And errr.... when in the film do they play that awful 'May it be' song? Either it's the credits or I blank it from my mind!

Actually I must disagree about the "May It Be" portion, I find it hauntingly beautiful.

I agree with the brass-heavy section as the camera skims down the side of Isengard down to the Mines. Really effective. I usually immediately experience waves of revulsion at a keening, castrati-voice hovering over a fading orchestration; however, this one was really good.

I have my arguments against the soundtrack, but I have to admit that I like it more the more I listen to it.

Good points, Barry!

A moral of the whole (after the primary symbolism of the Ring, as the will to mere power, seeking to make itself objective by physical force and mechanism, and so also inevitably by lies) is the obvious one that without the high and noble the simple and vulgar is utterly mean; and without the simple and ordinary the noble and heroic is meaningless." My favorite Tracks on the CD are: 2, 17 and 18 (Concerning Hobbits, Breaking of the Bellowship and May it be) Tho I have to say, the entire disk is quite good, I've fallen asleep to it many many times.*hugs the CD*

I agree, Bropous, May It Be is hauntingly beautiful. It made me cry the first time I heard it. I am very 'musically oriented', and I pay close attention to music scores in movies, because they affect me a great deal. I don't remember May It Be, so it's probably in the credits. Yeah, I believe it is.

I tend to get sucked into movies depending on how well the musical score is, as well as the acting and imagery.

Well, Starr, I don't think it comes up to the level of John Williams' original Star Wars score, nor that it could not have been done better by, say, Mike Oldfield, but still a creditable effort!

Oddly enough, much as I love the soundtrack, it didn't leap out at me as being excellent to start with, not in the way Star Wars (good example) did, or even say Gladiator (which had a fairly unique style, which helped).

Of course, I'm still trying to decide whether this is good or bad.
I don't think I 'missed' it the first few times because it was bad, more because it fitted the film so well that it was simply another part of the experience, rather than a seperate audio stream.

Kind of similar to what Feraway Hawkbriar - saying you fall asleep to a soudtrack doesn't really sound like a compliment, but we know what you mean

I loved the Treason of Isengard-theme as well! I have it on mp3.
That part is astounishing...
I liked most of the music in game, although I sometimes laugh when I hear Bridge of Khazad Dum-theme. That singing is just so funny sounding.

I also have the score,and love it.I think H.Shore did a wonderful job,for those who have access to a mp3 service,try "concerning Hobbits",actually Enya's "may it be"is the one I least like,but I love the rest.

The more I listen to May it be the more I hate it.
I got to the point earlier today where I simply deleted it from my harddrive.

For a start it's an anomoly - it doesn't match ANY of the soundtrack (even Enya's other bits and bobs), and secondly it has no filmic imagery to associate with, which is part of the allure of the other bits for me.

Still not qiute as bad as other film soundtracks, where you get songs 'inspired by' the film, IE nothing whatsoever to do with it. I heard the Blade soundtrack and there's this one song that goes 'bounce bounce bounce bounce bounce' Utter sh**e!!! Funny too, but nothing to do with the film

Ah I follow you

Trouble is, without a search facility (go on, tell me there is one and I just haven't noticed it!) it's not worth my time to backtrack through old threads (I did so about 2 or 3 days worth when I re-joined recently, but that was about it).

Besides, if it generates new interest, that obviously means it's something relevant

May It Be is played in the credits. Nowhere else that I noticed.

"May it be
An evening star
Will shine down upon you
May it be
When darkness falls
Your heart will be true . . ."

Hee hee . . .sorry gerbil, I like the song . . .

Oh well, there's no accounting for taste (or lack thereof :P ).

I wonder about 'epic' soundtracks for films though - I am wondering what the nominations and winners of best soundtrack for films have been? How many are classical-based like this?
To me normal films with normals songs just can't cut the mustard for anything other than an 'oh that's average' type thing. Classical is where it's at!

Oh, except of course usually some stupid Disney song wins. Urk.
Apart from the Lion King stuff, which rocked
