And we're nearly at the end of November - I didn't write as much as I had planned this month, so I wouldn't be a winner this year even if I had followed the rules strictly.

Are any Mooters desperately typing in their last three thousand words this weekend?

I am. I reached the end of the story around 40,000. I filled in some things in the middle of the story, but for the remaining words, I'm just writing a really long epilogue of silly stories. :] I'm at 41.5k or so today.

There are still a few loose knots I have yet to tie, but I'm not going to rush these last two days.

I didn't write as much as I hoped in terms of words, but I finished far more than I had planned. Aside from the RPG's, I finished an entire short story, which is far quicker than my usual pace, wrote a draft of another, gave a third story a final edit and worked on a difficult scene in a fourth. Originally I had planned to finish the entire draft of the fourth one this month, but I got distracted by the others. (And I worked on the plot of a fifth unwritten one in my head, but that doesn't count for NaNoWriMo. )

It's been a rather exhausting month this way, but pushing yourself is part of the deal of NaNoWriMo.

I'm not sure, but I doubt it. Although I might well sign up again, to be able to post on the forum and be ready if inspiration strikes. I still haven't finished an old one, which I really should.

But I've also thought about how fun it would be to write a fanfiction crossover story about Barufiniel (from Long Lost Leaves) and her youth in Narnia ...

I win! Again! And no one else wanted to do it with me :< But my non-mooter friends did so it was fun. My story was pretty awesome this year. Awesomely bad but sweet none-the-less. I'm so psyched. I'm going to get Chinese food to celebrate.

Congratulations, katya.

Well, I wasn't going to write anything this month, but somehow I managed to write over 10 000 words, spread over four short stories this month, RPG's not included. It's not 50 000 (but I don't think I can even reach 50 000 if I include all my already finished stories) but I'm pretty impressed with myself.

Congrats, katya! I haven't looked at my NaNo from (oh god it's so long ago) 2005 in a long long time. But it was horrible, horrible, horrible.

Of course, now I'm 2/3 of the way through editing a 100,000 word poem I wrote this year, I'm not sure I would have had the time to also do a 50,000 word NaNo...

Yes . These are the dangers of becoming an English graduate student - you start to think you're John Milton.

It's that time of the year again! I just realized that next month is November (of course, I had realized it was October, being that October is my favorite month), and I still haven't any idea what to write for this year's NaNo! I will write something though. I wouldn't miss it! If anyone is brave enough to join me, you should probably start planning soon.

Continuing my tradition of picking a new username every year, this year my username is shire_fox, (I'm in a LotR mood) and feel free to add me as a writing buddy.

This year I won't even try to do it properly. I simply don't have the time to spend a couple of hours every day on that project in November. Not this year.

That might not stop me from signing on again, though
It's great fun just to join the discussion board.

I'll keep my Wise Queen account.

I decided to go for 5,000 words instead of 50,000 words - and I reached my goal!
I even passed 6,000 words!

And the story is something I'll add to from time to time, and possibly post as fan fiction.

Anyone else who reached some official or self-defined goal?

I was watching your progress, Varnafindë, good to see you reached your goal.

I managed to reach 50,000 on November 29th, despite all the obstacles in my path. For example there's a solid week where I didn't write anything, due to lots of parties and stuff and staying out late and whatever. Also Thanksgiving, etc. I was a little nervous at the end! This was the hardest NaNo yet and it was pretty horrible at times. But I ended up with a novel I actually like, more or less, and a pretty nice feeling of accomplishment. Looking forward to that TGOI party.

Congrats to you both.

Didn't get a single letter written, despite plans on finishing two of my unfinished stories. But then it was full weekends, emergency repairs, I got sick, etc... So, yeah, not a letter. But I did get to finish my goal for NaNoArtMo, so it wasn't all bad. I write the whole year around so I guess those stories will get finished in their own time.

I find it really funny to read my last comment on here.

I just hit 50k tonight, though my story is not quite over yet. It was a very difficult year in a way, but easy at the same time. I had next to no problems at all with writer's block, I had a solid story, it went really well, and I have a lot of fleshing out I can do a little later to make this actually a full length novel rather than a novella. On the other hand, I had a severe lack of actual time to write. I have two jobs and am working around 55 hours a week. In my free evenings, I've been obsessively watching Doctor Who with some friends. I've basically had to write in every spare minute I have. So in that sense, I felt like it was a very hard year.

But, looking back at 2010, I remember that it was hard then, too. I think that's what keeps bringing me back to NaNoWriMo is that, quite simply, I forgot how horrible it was and only remember the fun times. Otherwise, I don't think I'd have the courage to do it every year! But now I do remember 2010, all those parties, all that debauchery... It was a really good month for me, but I remember how the words just wouldn't come, how my heart was off on an adventure of its own far from the world in which my story took place, and trying to write with horrible hangovers while trying to manage my social life at the same time.

2011 was the first year that I lost. My life was insane, I didn't even have a laptop to write on, but I managed about 15k in a notebook before giving up about halfway through the month. I was in between homes and sleeping on friends' couches. I was working 45 hours or so at a job that sucked my soul out (as opposed to the ones I have now that revitalize me). My social life was the biggest mess it's ever been, ever. Some of the worst moments of my life occurred in the fall of 2011 (and some of the best). So that was the hardest year, and it kind of takes some of the joy out of victory this year. I won three times, then I lost. I'm hoping sometime in the future to finish 50k PLUS finish my 2011 novel. But I don't know if that's ever going to happen.

Just took a peek at this thread-I like the idea! What was your novel about, Elfgirl?

I don't think Elfgirl has been around for a while...

You should definitely try NaNo though! I think you would enjoy it. Have you looked around the website?

Yes I have. I'm inspired by the idea of writing 50k words in a month, and claps to those who do, but I'm horrible at any kind of creative writing. Plus I don't have the time

Aw, it doesn't matter, in writing that much you'll get better! But I guess if you're not really into it you probably won't be able to finish.

Exactly If I'm going to spend my free time working on something, it will be something I enjoy and am passionate about.
